SMS Cultural Team Overall Runners Up at Chittara Cultural Fest


The College Cultural Team proudly participated in the Intercollegiate Fest “Chittara” held on 30 April 2026 at Sri Sharadha College, Basrur, and delivered an impressive performance across various events. 

The team secured First Place in Group Filmy Dance, showcasing exceptional talent and coordination.With these remarkable achievements, the Cultural Team was declared Overall Runners-up in the fest and received a cash prize of ₹15,000, marking yet another milestone in their successful journey.

Spell Bee Competition

 


On the occasion of English Language Day, the Department of English organized a series of competitions for students on 30th April 2026. The events included Charades, Spell Bee, Puzzles, and Quiz. These activities were designed to enhance students’ vocabulary and language skills in an engaging and interactive way.

The students participated enthusiastically and showed great interest throughout the program. The competitions not only tested their knowledge but also helped them learn new words and improve their communication skills.

Brahmavar, April 2026: In a moment of great pride and academic distinction, SMS College Brahmavar has celebrated the remarkable achievement of two of its faculty members who have been awarded the prestigious Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degrees in their respective disciplines.

Dr. Prashanth Shetty of the Department of History, Ancient History, and Archaeology has been conferred a Ph.D. for his research on “A Study on the Prehistorical and Protohistorical Cultures of Coastal Karnataka with Special Reference to Udupi and Dakshina Kannada District.” His scholarly work provides valuable contributions to the understanding of early cultural developments in coastal Karnataka.

Simultaneously, Dr. Bharathraj S. Nejar, Head of the Department of Economics, has earned his Ph.D. from Kuvempu University for his research titled “Role of Roads in Rural Development – A Study in Udupi District.” His study highlights the significance of infrastructure, particularly rural roads, in fostering economic growth and development.

The twin achievement of both faculty members marks a significant milestone for the institution, reflecting its strong commitment to research excellence and higher education. The Management, Principal, staff, and students of the college expressed their heartfelt congratulations and noted that such accomplishments enhance the academic reputation of the institution.

The college community extended their best wishes to both scholars for continued success in their future academic and research endeavors.

Anti-Ragging, Legal Rights, and POSH awareness program

 The Anti-Ragging Cell of the college, in association with the IQAC, organized an awareness program on Anti-Ragging, Legal Rights, and POSH (Prevention of Sexual Harassment) on 16 April 2026. The session was led by Advocate Sunil S. Moolya, who served as the resource person and provided valuable insights on the topics. The gathering was addressed by the Principal, Dr. Robert Rodrigues J., who emphasized the importance of creating a safe and respectful campus environment. The program was successfully coordinated under the  leadership of Mrs. Chitra Shetty, Convener of the Anti-Ragging Cell.

Trekking and Nature Study Camp

 

Rovers and Rangers participated in a Trekking and Nature Study Camp to Yana on 13th April 2026. As part of the program, they visited Yana and the Sharavathi Kandla Mangrove forest to observe natural rock formations and coastal vegetation. The trekking experience helped students develop teamwork, discipline, environmental awareness and enhancing students’ understanding of biodiversity.

Internship and Placement drive

 


An online campus placement drive was conducted by the Placement Cell on 13th April 2026 for final-year BCA students in collaboration with Dhee Coding Lab.

Before the interview process, an orientation program was conducted to brief the students about the company and the recruitment process. This was followed by an aptitude test and a Group Discussion (GD) round as part of the selection procedure.

A total of 44 students participated in the placement drive. After the completion of all selection rounds, 2 students ( Sathvik and Varsha)were successfully placed.

The Placement Cell appreciates the efforts of all participating students and congratulates the selected candidates. The Cell looks forward to organizing more such opportunities in the future.

Brahmavar, April 11, 2026:

The renovated Rev. Fr. P.G. Koshy Memorial Auditorium at SMS College, Brahmavar was formally inaugurated on Saturday, April 11, 2026, at 10:00 AM, in a dignified and well-organized ceremony attended by eminent dignitaries, faculty members, students, and well-wishers.

The programme commenced with a ceremonial ribbon-cutting at the entrance of the auditorium, symbolizing the official opening of the newly renovated facility. The dignitaries were then escorted to the stage for the formal proceedings.The event began with an invocation rendered by Ms. Soujanya and team, invoking divine blessings for the success of the programme. Mrs. Violetine Lewis, Office Superintendent, delivered the welcome address and introduced the distinguished guests.

Dr. Robert Rodrigues J, Principal of SMS College, presented the introductory speech, highlighting the significance of the auditorium renovation and its role in enhancing the academic and cultural environment of the institution.A solemn moment followed with the lighting of the traditional lamp by the dignitaries, accompanied by the garlanding of the portrait of Rev. Fr. P.G. Koshy, in remembrance of his invaluable contributions.The inauguration ceremony was presided over by Rev. Fr. M.C. Mathai, President of OSC Educational Society (R.), Brahmavar. The auditorium was formally inaugurated by Very Rev. Ramban G. M. Skariya, Former President of OSC Educational Society (R.), Brahmavar, who also addressed the gathering and emphasized the importance of infrastructural development in educational institutions.

The programme was graced by several distinguished guests, including Mr. Alen Rohan Vaz, General Secretary; Mr. Alvaris D’Silva, Secretary (College Section); Mr. Milton Olivera, Former General Treasurer; Mrs. Pushpalata, PTA President; Mr. Joseph Suaris, Alumni Treasurer; and Mr. Lucas Dias, General Treasurer of SMS Cathedral, Brahmavar.

Retired Principal Prof. K. Narayanan, Mr. Ganapathi Bhat, retired staff members Mrs. Rohini Bhat and Mr. Daineal Monthero, members of OSC Educational Society, well-wishers, alumni members, and students were also present on the occasion.

Rev. Fr. M.C. Mathai, in his presidential remarks, appreciated the efforts taken by the management and all stakeholders in successfully completing the renovation work and expressed confidence that the upgraded auditorium would serve as a vibrant platform for academic and cultural activities.As a mark of respect and appreciation, the inaugurator and other dignitaries were felicitated and presented with mementos.

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Mrs. Sumalatha, Teacher Coordinator, PTA, who expressed gratitude to all those who contributed to the success of the event.The entire event was  compered by Dr. Bharath Raj S. Nejar,Head Department of Economics .The ceremony ended with refreshments and sweet distribution to all attendees, marking the occasion on a celebratory note.

The Cultural Team of the college brought laurels to the institution by securing the Overall Championship at the Intercollegiate Fest Beyond the Scroll, held on 27 March 2026 at MGM Evening College, Udupi.




Demonstrating outstanding talent and teamwork, the students secured First Place in Group Dance and Second Place in Social Media MarketingWith these impressive performances, the team emerged as the Overall Champions of the fest and received a cash prize of ₹10,000.

Soft skill Training programme For Students


The inauguration of the Soft Skills Training Program was held on 26th March 2026 at St. Mary’s Syrian College, Brahmavar, for final-year B.Com and BA students. The event, organized by the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) in association with the Placement Cell and HRD Cell of the college, took place at Rev. Fr. P. G. Koshy Auditorium at 1:30 PM.

The workshop was inaugurated in the presence of Ms. Benedicta and Ms. Shakthi S, Technical and Soft Skills Trainers from Magic Bus India Foundation, who will serve as the resource persons for all five days of the program.The inaugural program began with a prayer by Dhanvantari of III B.Com B and Keerthana of I B.Com A. The welcome address was delivered by Deepika of III B.Com B, and the vote of thanks was proposed by Shaldon of III B.Com B. The program was hosted by Nikita and Tanis of III B.Com A.

Principal Dr. Robert Rodrigues delivered the introductory speech. Mrs. Tweeny Maria Rodrigues (Head of the Department of Commerce and Placement Officer), HRD Cell Convenor Mrs. Asha T. K, IQAC Coordinator Mr. Ashwin Shetty, Program Coordinator Mr. Madhu, and Placement Officer Mr. Bhargav from Magic Bus India Foundation were present on the occasion.

The inaugural session witnessed enthusiastic participation from students, who actively engaged in the program.The training will continue for five days, aiming to significantly contribute to the students’ professional and personal growth.The program aims to enhance students' soft skills, communication abilities, leadership qualities, and career readiness through interactive sessions, real-world examples, and practical exercises.

Campus drive

 

A campus placement drive was conducted by the Placement Cell on 5th March 2026 in collaboration with Dhriti Edu Service for Almasons. A total of 102 students registered for the drive.The selection process consisted of three stages: an online test, a group discussion, and a face-to-face interview. Based on their performance across these stages, 2 students were shortlisted. The final round of interviews for the shortlisted candidates is yet to be scheduled.

The placement drive offered students valuable exposure and enhanced their access to career opportunities in the fields of Information Technology and Supply Chain Management.

A total of 117 final year students registered for the drive.The selection process comprised two rounds. The first round was an online test designed to assess candidates’ aptitude and technical skills, followed by a Group Discussion (GD) to evaluate their communication abilities and teamwork.

Based on their performance, a total of 10 students were selected, including 9 from the BCA program and 1 from B.Com. The drive was highly successful and provided valuable career opportunities for the participating students.

 B & C Certificate NCC Examination Conducted at SMS College, Brahmavar

The 21 KAR BN NCC Udupi successfully conducted the B and C Certificate NCC Examination 2026 at SMS College Brahmavar on 14 & 15 February 2026 and 14 & 15 March 2026.Around 500 NCC cadets from various colleges across the district participated in the examination. The examination was organised smoothly under the supervision of NCC officers and staff, ensuring proper discipline and coordination throughout the process.



The management and staff of SMS College, Brahmavar extended full support by providing the necessary infrastructure and facilities for the successful conduct of the examination. The cadets appeared for both theoretical and practical components as part of the certification process.The event concluded successfully with appreciation from the NCC officials for the excellent arrangements and cooperation extended by the host institution.

 International Women’s Day Celebrated at SMS College, Brahmavar


Brahmavar: International Women’s Day was celebrated at the auditorium of SMS College, Brahmavar in collaboration with the IQAC, Women’s Forum of the college, and Giant Group Brahmavar.

On the occasion, women who have been leading self-reliant lives through their hard work and dedication were felicitated. Mrs. Manisha, an auto-rickshaw driver, Mrs. Akkani Marakalti, a daily wage labourer, and Mrs. Shashikala, were honoured for their inspiring contributions to society.

During the program, a special initiative titled “Henninda Hennigagi” (From Women for Women), organized by the girl students of the college through voluntary fund collection, was inaugurated by the Principal of the college, Dr. Robert Rodrigues J., along with the coordinators of the Women’s Forum. The objective of the initiative is to utilize the collected funds every year to provide medical assistance to economically disadvantaged girl students.

The formal session was followed by cultural performances presented by the students. The program was presided over by the Principal, Dr. Robert Rodrigues J.The chief guests of the program were Mr. Annayya Das, President of Giant Group Brahmavar, and Mr. Vivek Kamath, Immediate Past President, along with Mrs. Prathibha.Lieutenant Ashwin Shetty, IQAC Coordinator of the college, Dr. Vidyalatha, Advisor of the Women’s Forum, student leaders Ms.Srushti, and Women’s Forum Secretary Ms.Amrutha were present on the occasion along with faculty members and students.

Brahmavar, March 5: A team from Sahaja Yoga conducted an awareness and training session on the importance of yoga and meditation at S.M.S. College, Brahmavar today.The program was organized to introduce students to the benefits of Sahaja Yoga and Kundalini Yoga for mental peace, physical health, and personality development. The Sahaja Yoga team, along with experienced yoga trainers, explained the concept of Kundalini awakening and its role in achieving inner balance and self-realization.

During the session, the trainers spoke about how regular practice of yoga and meditation helps reduce stress, improve concentration, and maintain emotional stability among students. They also demonstrated simple techniques of Sahaja Yoga meditation, which students practiced during the session.A guided meditation session was conducted where students experienced relaxation and mindfulness. The trainers encouraged students to practice meditation regularly to maintain a healthy mind and body.

The program received an enthusiastic response from students, who actively participated in the meditation session and interacted with the trainers to learn more about yoga practices.The college authorities appreciated the Sahaja Yoga team for organizing such an informative and beneficial session for the students.

Ms. Fathima Shalula A. H., a student of the college, achieved this distinction through her outstanding academic performance. She is the daughter of Mr. Abdul Hakeem and Mrs. Shahanaz and is a resident of Tekkatte.

Bizhustle 2.0


 On the occasion of the 46th Annual Sports Day ,the Department of Commerce , Commerce Association organised Bizhustle 2.0 – Turn Ideas into Income on 26/2/2026 , Wednesday.The program was a wonderful initiative for the B.Com students to showcase their entrepreneurial skills by setting up stalls and managing their own business activities. It was truly inspiring to witness the students’ creativity, teamwork, and business spirit in action. Their dedication and innovative ideas made the event meaningful and memorable.

Students from all the streams, along with the teaching and non-teaching staff of the college, the staff of the sister institution , invitees and well wishers visited the stalls and supported the students by purchasing items.
