Kargil Vijay Diwas Observed at Saint Mary's Syrian College, Brahmavar


Brahmavar, July 27, 2026: Saint Mary's Syrian College, Brahmavar, in association with the NCC Unit, solemnly observed Kargil Vijay Diwas on 27 July 2026 to honour the courage, sacrifice, and patriotism of the brave soldiers who laid down their lives during the Kargil War.

As part of the programme, a documentary video depicting the events of the Kargil War and the valiant efforts of the Indian Armed Forces was screened. The presentation enabled students to understand the significance of Kargil Vijay Diwas and inspired them with the spirit of patriotism, courage, and national service.

The programme witnessed the participation of the Principal, faculty members, NCC cadets, and students, who paid tribute to the martyrs and reaffirmed their commitment to the ideals of national unity and service.

The observance concluded with a message encouraging students to remember the sacrifices of the nation's heroes and uphold the values of patriotism and responsibility.

Brahmavar, July 27, 2026:  

The Students of Saint Mary's Syrian College, Brahmavar, organised a Drug Awareness Programme on 27 July 2026 at the PG Koshy Auditorium to educate students about the harmful effects of drug abuse and the importance of leading a healthy and responsible life.

The programme was graced by Sakarama Somayaji, Retired Professor of JNU and President of the Old Students' Association, who served as the resource person. In his thought-provoking address, he highlighted the physical, mental, social, and legal consequences of substance abuse and urged students to stay away from drugs by making informed and responsible choices. He also encouraged students to develop strong values, self-discipline, and positive habits for a successful future.

The programme was presided over by the Principal, Dr. Robert Rodriguez J.Students actively participated in the programme, making it an informative and meaningful awareness initiative. The session concluded with a renewed commitment among students to promote a healthy, safe, and drug-free society.

 Orientation Programme on Competitive Examinations Conducted

SMS College Brahmavar, in association with Naren Academy, Brahmavar, organized an Orientation Programme on Competitive Examinations to create awareness among students about career opportunities in the government sector and to guide them in preparing for various competitive examinations.

The programme was presided over by Dr. Robert Rodrigues J., President of the programme. In his presidential address, he highlighted the growing employment opportunities in the government sector and encouraged students to prepare sincerely for competitive examinations to build a secure and successful career.

The Chief Guest, Prof. Sakharam Somayaji, spoke about the various competitive examination patterns and shared effective strategies to crack competitive examinations through proper planning, focused preparation, and consistent practice.

The Resource Person, Mr. Chandrakanth V. Chantar, provided valuable insights into the different competitive examinations conducted at the state and central levels. He explained the departments responsible for conducting these examinations, their examination patterns, salary structures, and the career prospects associated with various government job positions.

The programme commenced with a warm welcome and an introduction to competitive examinations by Mr. Vighnesh Padiyar, Lecturer in Commerce. The event was efficiently compered by Ms. Divyajyothi, a final-year B.Com student, while the vote of thanks was proposed by Ms. Vidya, also a final-year B.Com student.

A large number of competitive examination aspirants, students, teaching faculty, and non-teaching staff attended the programme and benefited from the valuable guidance provided during the session.

International Skill Development Programme German language & Global job opportunities - Orientation

 An Orientation Programme was organized at St. Mary's Syrian College on 25 July 2026 in collaboration with Ajinorah. The programme aimed to create awareness among students about emerging career opportunities, skill-based learning, and international certification courses.

The resource persons for the programme were Mrs. Sandra Jacob, Regional Manager, Aginorah, and Mr. Susheel Kumar K. R., Marketing Manager, Aginorah. They delivered informative sessions on global employability, skill-based learning, and international certification courses. The speakers highlighted the importance of acquiring industry-relevant skills and encouraged students to prepare themselves for global career opportunities.

The presidential remarks were delivered by Dr. Robert Rodrigues J., Principal of St. Mary's Syrian College. In his address, he emphasized the importance of continuous learning, skill enhancement, and making the best use of such opportunities to build successful careers.

Mrs. Tweeny Maria Rodrigues, Head of the Department of Commerce, Mrs. Asha T. K., Add-on Course Convenor, Department of Commerce, Mrs. Kavita, Add-on Course Convenor, Department of BCA and other teaching and non teaching staff were present at the programme.

The programme concluded with an interactive session, during which students actively participated and clarified their queries. Overall, the programme was highly informative and provided students with valuable insights into global career opportunities and the importance of developing industry-relevant skills.

Brahmavar, 20 July 2026: St. Mary's Syrian College, Brahmavar, organised an Orientation Programme for the newly admitted first-year students of B.A., B.Com., and B.C.A. on 20 July 2026 in the college auditorium.

The programme commenced with a warm welcome to the freshers, marking the beginning of their academic journey at the institution. The Heads of the Departments and Class Advisors of the respective programmes addressed the students and extended their best wishes for a successful and enriching college life.

During the session, the faculty members provided an overview of the academic structure, examination system, attendance requirements, code of conduct, and various co-curricular and extracurricular opportunities available on the campus. The students were also introduced to the college's facilities, including the library, laboratories, sports, NSS, cultural activities, placement and career guidance, and student support services.

The interaction helped the newcomers become familiar with the college environment, academic expectations, and the values upheld by the institution. The programme concluded with an interactive session where students clarified their queries and were encouraged to actively participate in all academic and campus activities throughout their course.

 Alumni Vacation Reunion Held at SMS College, Brahmavar

The Alumni Association of SMS College, Brahmavar, organized a memorable Vacation Reunion Meet on Saturday, June 20, 2026, at the college campus, bringing together former students to reconnect and celebrate their lifelong association with the institution.

The programme began with a warm welcome by Alumni Association President Prof. Sakarama Somayaji, who greeted the gathering and emphasized the importance of maintaining strong bonds between alumni and their alma mater.

Principal Dr. Robert Rodrigues briefly highlighted the activities and initiatives undertaken by the Alumni Association during the academic year 2025–26.He highlighted the association’s valuable contributions towards student welfare, academic enrichment, infrastructure development, and community-oriented programmes.He also appreciated the continued support and involvement of alumni in the growth and progress of the institution.

Around 30 alumni members participated in the reunion. The gathering provided an excellent opportunity for the alumni to renew old friendships, exchange experiences, and relive fond memories of their college life.

The alumni appreciated and praised the Alumni Association for successfully organizing the reunion. They also said they would like to support and take part in the college's future activities and development programmes.

The programme concluded with a Vote of Thanks by the Secretary of the Alumni Association, Mr. Sachin Poojary.

The event ended with a group photograph session, capturing the memorable moments of togetherness and strengthening the spirit of unity among the alumni of SMS College.The reunion was a grand success and reaffirmed the enduring relationship between SMS College, Brahmavar, and its alumni, inspiring a shared commitment towards the institution’s continued excellence and development.

VISTARA 2.0 – Commerce Fest

 

The Department of Commerce and Commerce Association of SMS College successfully organized VISTARA 2.0 – Commerce Fest, an inter-class competition event, on 22 May 2026 at 9:30 A.M. in the college campus. The fest was conducted with the objective of encouraging students to develop their talents, leadership qualities, teamwork, and creativity through various commerce-related activities and competitions.

The inaugural ceremony began with a warm welcome to the dignitaries, faculty members, and students. The inauguration was uniquely marked by the watering of a mango sapling by the dignitaries, symbolizing growth, knowledge, and new beginnings. Adding a meaningful touch to the celebration, the final-year students planted saplings in the campus as a token of remembrance of their college life and cherished memories, reflecting their commitment towards nature and sustainability.

The program was presided over by Dr. Robert Rodrigues J, who addressed the gathering and emphasized the importance of academic and co-curricular activities in shaping students’ confidence, communication skills, and professional growth. Mr. Prasanna Shetty, Vice principal was also present on the occasion along with judges Dr. Prashanth Shetty and Mrs. Sureka, faculty members, and office staff.

Students from different classes enthusiastically participated in the various competitions and activities organized as part of the fest. The event witnessed active involvement from both students and faculty members, contributing to its grand success. The Overall Championship of VISTARA 2.0 was proudly secured by the students of III B.Com A.

The program was coordinated under the guidance of Mrs. Tweeny Maria Rodrigues, Head of the Department of Commerce, Mr. Vignesh Padiyar, Convenor of the Commerce Association, Mrs. Prathima, Coordinator of M.Com, and all the commerce faculty members. The program was gracefully hosted by Ms. Nikitha of III B.Com A.

 Students of S.M.S. College, Brahmavar, brought laurels to the institution by securing Overall Third Place at Aaroha Fest organized by LSBGFGC, Kota-Padukere on May 18, 2026. The college was awarded a cash prize of ₹20,000 for its outstanding overall performance in the fest.

The students showcased their talents in various cultural events and competitions, earning appreciation for their creativity, teamwork, and dedication. Their remarkable performance enabled the college to emerge as one of the top-performing institutions at the intercollegiate fest.

 Mangalore University Inter-Collegiate Women’s Cricket Tournament Concludes at SMS College Brahmavar

Brahmavar, May 22: Mangalore University and SMS College Brahmavar jointly organised the Mangalore University Inter-Collegiate Women’s Cricket Tournament, The programme was presided over by Principal of SMS College Brahmavar Dr. Robert Rodrigues J ,  Mangalore University Match Observer and Principal of Crossland College Mr. Biju Jacob, Coach Mr. Lingappa, and Physical Education Director Mr. Venkatesh Bhat were present on the dais.

In the tournament, Alva's College Moodbidri secured the first place, while SMS College Brahmavar emerged as runners-up. The third place was bagged by Mahaveera College.Individual awards were also presented during the occasion.Ms.Pallavi emerged as Best Batter,Sanvi of SMS College Brahmavar received the Best Bowler award. Kripa of Alva’s College Moodbidri was adjudged the Player of the Tournament, while Nalini of Alva’s College Moodbidri won the Best Wicket Keeper award.

The vote of thanks and prize distribution ceremony were carried out by Mr. Venkatesh Bhat. Students, players, and Physical Education Directors from various colleges were present during the programme.The programme was compered by Dr. Bharath Raj S. Nejar.

ಮುಖ್ಯ ಅತಿಥಿಗಳಾಗಿ ಆಗಮಿಸಿದ್ದ ಉದ್ಯಮಿ ಮತ್ತು ಸಮಾಜ ಸೇವಕರಾದ ಶ್ರೀ ಜೋಸೆಫ್ ಎಲಿಯಾಸ್ ಮೆನೆಜಸ್ ಅವರು ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿಗಳನ್ನು ಉದ್ದೇಶಿಸಿ ತಮ್ಮ ಪ್ರೇರಣಾದಾಯಕ ನುಡಿಗಳನ್ನಾಡುತ್ತಾ ತಮ್ಮ ಜೀವನದ ನೈಜ ಉದಾಹರಣೆಗಳನ್ನು ನೀಡಿ, ಕಠಿಣ ಪರಿಶ್ರಮ ಮತ್ತು ಸಮರ್ಪಣಾ ಭಾವದಿಂದ ಒಬ್ಬ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿಯು ಸಮಾಜದಲ್ಲಿ ಹೇಗೆ ಉನ್ನತ ಹಾಗೂ ಗೌರವಾನ್ವಿತ ಸ್ಥಾನಕ್ಕೆ ಏರಬಹುದು ಎಂಬುದನ್ನು ವಿವರಿಸಿದರು. ಅಲ್ಲದೆ, ಯಶಸ್ಸಿನ ಉತ್ತುಂಗಕ್ಕೇರಿದಾಗ ಸಮಾಜ ಸೇವೆಯ ಮೂಲಕ ಆಶಕ್ತರಿಗೆ ಸಹಾಯಹಸ್ತವನ್ನು ಚಾಚುವುದು ಪ್ರತಿಯೊಬ್ಬರ ಕರ್ತವ್ಯ ಎಂದು ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿಗಳಿಗೆ ಕಿವಿಮಾತು ಹೇಳಿದರು.

 ಗೌರವ ಉಪಸ್ಥಿತಿತರು ಹಾಗೂ ಕಾಲೇಜಿನ ಹಳೆಯ ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿಯೂ ಆದ ಶ್ರೀ ಸಂಜೀವ ಗುಂಡ್ಮಿ ಅವರು ಸಮಾಜದಲ್ಲಿ ಶಿಸ್ತುಬದ್ಧ ಜೀವನದ ಪ್ರಾಮುಖ್ಯತೆಯ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಮಾತನಾಡುತ್ತಾ, ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿ ಜೀವನದಲ್ಲಿ ಕೇವಲ ಪಠ್ಯಕ್ಕೆ ಸೀಮಿತವಾಗದೆ, ಕಾಲೇಜಿನ ಎಲ್ಲಾ ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಸಕ್ರಿಯವಾಗಿ ಪಾಲ್ಗೊಳ್ಳುವುದು ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿತ್ವ ವಿಕಸನಕ್ಕೆ ಪೂರಕವಾಗುತ್ತದೆ ಎಂದು ಅಭಿಪ್ರಾಯಪಟ್ಟರು. ಇಂತಹ ಸಕ್ರಿಯ ಪಾಲ್ಗೊಳ್ಳುವಿಕೆಯು ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿಗಳನ್ನು ಯಶಸ್ಸಿನತ್ತ ಕೊಂಡೊಯ್ಯುವುದಲ್ಲದೆ, ಭವಿಷ್ಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಸುಸ್ಥಿರ ಹಾಗೂ ನೆಮ್ಮದಿಯ ಜೀವನವನ್ನು ರೂಪಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳಲು ಸಹಾಯ ಮಾಡುತ್ತದೆ ಎಂದು ಅವರು ತಿಳಿಸಿದರು.

ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮದ ಅಧ್ಯಕ್ಷತೆಯನ್ನು ಎಸ್.ಎಂ.ಎಸ್ ಕಾಲೇಜಿನ ಸಂಚಾಲಕರಾದ ರೆವರೆಂಡ್ ಫಾದರ್ ಎಂ.ಸಿ. ಮಥಾಯ್ ಅವರು ವಹಿಸಿದ್ದರು. ವೇದಿಕೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಆಡಳಿತ ಮಂಡಳಿಯ ಕಾಲೇಜು ವಿಭಾಗದ ಕಾರ್ಯದರ್ಶಿಯಾದ ಶ್ರೀ ಅಲ್ವಾರಿಸ್ ಡಿಸಿಲ್ವಾ ಮತ್ತು ಖಜಾಂಚಿ ಶ್ರೀ ಜಾಯ್ಸನ್ ರೋಡ್ರಿಗಸ್ ಅವರು ಉಪಸ್ಥಿತರಿದ್ದರು.
