VISTARA 2.0 – Commerce Fest

 

The Department of Commerce and Commerce Association of SMS College successfully organized VISTARA 2.0 – Commerce Fest, an inter-class competition event, on 22 May 2026 at 9:30 A.M. in the college campus. The fest was conducted with the objective of encouraging students to develop their talents, leadership qualities, teamwork, and creativity through various commerce-related activities and competitions.

The inaugural ceremony began with a warm welcome to the dignitaries, faculty members, and students. The inauguration was uniquely marked by the watering of a mango sapling by the dignitaries, symbolizing growth, knowledge, and new beginnings. Adding a meaningful touch to the celebration, the final-year students planted saplings in the campus as a token of remembrance of their college life and cherished memories, reflecting their commitment towards nature and sustainability.

The program was presided over by Dr. Robert Rodrigues J, who addressed the gathering and emphasized the importance of academic and co-curricular activities in shaping students’ confidence, communication skills, and professional growth. Mr. Prasanna Shetty, Vice principal was also present on the occasion along with judges Dr. Prashanth Shetty and Mrs. Sureka, faculty members, and office staff.

Students from different classes enthusiastically participated in the various competitions and activities organized as part of the fest. The event witnessed active involvement from both students and faculty members, contributing to its grand success. The Overall Championship of VISTARA 2.0 was proudly secured by the students of III B.Com A.

The program was coordinated under the guidance of Mrs. Tweeny Maria Rodrigues, Head of the Department of Commerce, Mr. Vignesh Padiyar, Convenor of the Commerce Association, Mrs. Prathima, Coordinator of M.Com, and all the commerce faculty members. The program was gracefully hosted by Ms. Nikitha of III B.Com A.

 S.M.S. College Secures Overall Third Place at Aaroha Fest

 Students of S.M.S. College, Brahmavar, brought laurels to the institution by securing Overall Third Place at Aaroha Fest organized by LSBGFGC, Kota-Padukere on May 18, 2026. The college was awarded a cash prize of ₹20,000 for its outstanding overall performance in the fest.

The students showcased their talents in various cultural events and competitions, earning appreciation for their creativity, teamwork, and dedication. Their remarkable performance enabled the college to emerge as one of the top-performing institutions at the intercollegiate fest.

Brahmavar, May 22: Mangalore University and SMS College Brahmavar jointly organised the Mangalore University Inter-Collegiate Women’s Cricket Tournament, The programme was presided over by Principal of SMS College Brahmavar Dr. Robert Rodrigues J ,  Mangalore University Match Observer and Principal of Crossland College Mr. Biju Jacob, Coach Mr. Lingappa, and Physical Education Director Mr. Venkatesh Bhat were present on the dais.

In the tournament, Alva's College Moodbidri secured the first place, while SMS College Brahmavar emerged as runners-up. The third place was bagged by Mahaveera College.Individual awards were also presented during the occasion.Ms.Pallavi emerged as Best Batter,Sanvi of SMS College Brahmavar received the Best Bowler award. Kripa of Alva’s College Moodbidri was adjudged the Player of the Tournament, while Nalini of Alva’s College Moodbidri won the Best Wicket Keeper award.

The vote of thanks and prize distribution ceremony were carried out by Mr. Venkatesh Bhat. Students, players, and Physical Education Directors from various colleges were present during the programme.The programme was compered by Dr. Bharath Raj S. Nejar.

 ಬ್ರಹ್ಮಾವರದ ಸೇಂಟ್ ಮೇರಿಸ್ ಸಿರಿಯನ್ ಕಾಲೇಜು ಹಾಗೂ ಕಾಲೇಜಿನ ಆಂತರಿಕ ಗುಣಮಟ್ಟ ಭರವಸೆ ಕೋಶದ (IQAC)ಸಹಯೋಗದಿಂದಿಗೆ 46ನೇ ಕೌನ್ಸಿಲ್ ಡೇ' ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿ ಕ್ಷೇಮಪಾಲನ ದಿನಾಚರಣೆಯು ಮೇ 12,2026ರ ಮಂಗಳವಾರದಂದು ಡಾ ಬಿ. ವಸಂತ ಶೆಟ್ಟಿ ಸಭಾಂಗಣದಲ್ಲಿ ನೆರವೇರಿತು . 

ಮುಖ್ಯ ಅತಿಥಿಗಳಾಗಿ ಆಗಮಿಸಿದ್ದ ಉದ್ಯಮಿ ಮತ್ತು ಸಮಾಜ ಸೇವಕರಾದ ಶ್ರೀ ಜೋಸೆಫ್ ಎಲಿಯಾಸ್ ಮೆನೆಜಸ್ ಅವರು ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿಗಳನ್ನು ಉದ್ದೇಶಿಸಿ ತಮ್ಮ ಪ್ರೇರಣಾದಾಯಕ ನುಡಿಗಳನ್ನಾಡುತ್ತಾ ತಮ್ಮ ಜೀವನದ ನೈಜ ಉದಾಹರಣೆಗಳನ್ನು ನೀಡಿ, ಕಠಿಣ ಪರಿಶ್ರಮ ಮತ್ತು ಸಮರ್ಪಣಾ ಭಾವದಿಂದ ಒಬ್ಬ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿಯು ಸಮಾಜದಲ್ಲಿ ಹೇಗೆ ಉನ್ನತ ಹಾಗೂ ಗೌರವಾನ್ವಿತ ಸ್ಥಾನಕ್ಕೆ ಏರಬಹುದು ಎಂಬುದನ್ನು ವಿವರಿಸಿದರು. ಅಲ್ಲದೆ, ಯಶಸ್ಸಿನ ಉತ್ತುಂಗಕ್ಕೇರಿದಾಗ ಸಮಾಜ ಸೇವೆಯ ಮೂಲಕ ಆಶಕ್ತರಿಗೆ ಸಹಾಯಹಸ್ತವನ್ನು ಚಾಚುವುದು ಪ್ರತಿಯೊಬ್ಬರ ಕರ್ತವ್ಯ ಎಂದು ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿಗಳಿಗೆ ಕಿವಿಮಾತು ಹೇಳಿದರು.

 ಗೌರವ ಉಪಸ್ಥಿತಿತರು ಹಾಗೂ ಕಾಲೇಜಿನ ಹಳೆಯ ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿಯೂ ಆದ ಶ್ರೀ ಸಂಜೀವ ಗುಂಡ್ಮಿ ಅವರು ಸಮಾಜದಲ್ಲಿ ಶಿಸ್ತುಬದ್ಧ ಜೀವನದ ಪ್ರಾಮುಖ್ಯತೆಯ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಮಾತನಾಡುತ್ತಾ, ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿ ಜೀವನದಲ್ಲಿ ಕೇವಲ ಪಠ್ಯಕ್ಕೆ ಸೀಮಿತವಾಗದೆ, ಕಾಲೇಜಿನ ಎಲ್ಲಾ ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಸಕ್ರಿಯವಾಗಿ ಪಾಲ್ಗೊಳ್ಳುವುದು ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿತ್ವ ವಿಕಸನಕ್ಕೆ ಪೂರಕವಾಗುತ್ತದೆ ಎಂದು ಅಭಿಪ್ರಾಯಪಟ್ಟರು. ಇಂತಹ ಸಕ್ರಿಯ ಪಾಲ್ಗೊಳ್ಳುವಿಕೆಯು ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿಗಳನ್ನು ಯಶಸ್ಸಿನತ್ತ ಕೊಂಡೊಯ್ಯುವುದಲ್ಲದೆ, ಭವಿಷ್ಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಸುಸ್ಥಿರ ಹಾಗೂ ನೆಮ್ಮದಿಯ ಜೀವನವನ್ನು ರೂಪಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳಲು ಸಹಾಯ ಮಾಡುತ್ತದೆ ಎಂದು ಅವರು ತಿಳಿಸಿದರು.

ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮದ ಅಧ್ಯಕ್ಷತೆಯನ್ನು ಎಸ್.ಎಂ.ಎಸ್ ಕಾಲೇಜಿನ ಸಂಚಾಲಕರಾದ ರೆವರೆಂಡ್ ಫಾದರ್ ಎಂ.ಸಿ. ಮಥಾಯ್ ಅವರು ವಹಿಸಿದ್ದರು. ವೇದಿಕೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಆಡಳಿತ ಮಂಡಳಿಯ ಕಾಲೇಜು ವಿಭಾಗದ ಕಾರ್ಯದರ್ಶಿಯಾದ ಶ್ರೀ ಅಲ್ವಾರಿಸ್ ಡಿಸಿಲ್ವಾ ಮತ್ತು ಖಜಾಂಚಿ ಶ್ರೀ ಜಾಯ್ಸನ್ ರೋಡ್ರಿಗಸ್ ಅವರು ಉಪಸ್ಥಿತರಿದ್ದರು.

College Day Celebration

 ಬ್ರಹ್ಮಾವರದ ಸೇಂಟ್ ಮೇರಿಸ್ ಸಿರಿಯನ್ ಕಾಲೇಜಿನ ವಾರ್ಷಿಕೋತ್ಸವವು ದಿನಾಂಕ 13.05.2026 ರಂದು ಡಾ. ಬಿ.ವಿ. ಶೆಟ್ಟಿ ಸ್ಮಾರಕ ಸಭಾಂಗಣದಲ್ಲಿ ಜರುಗಿತು.

ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮದ ಮುಖ್ಯ ಅತಿಥಿಗಳಾಗಿ ಆಗಮಿಸಿದ್ದ ಎಸ್‌ಕೆಪಿ ಗ್ರೂಪ್‌ನ ಮ್ಯಾನೇಜಿಂಗ್ ಡೈರೆಕ್ಟರ್ ಸಂಪತ್ ಕುಮಾರ್ ಶೆಟ್ಟಿ ಅವರು ಮಾತನಾಡಿ, ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿಗಳು ಜೀವನದಲ್ಲಿ ಮೌಲ್ಯಗಳನ್ನು ಅಳವಡಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳಬೇಕು ಎಂದು ತಿಳಿಸುತ್ತಾ, ಜೀವನದ ಯಶಸ್ಸಿಗಾಗಿ ನಿರಂತರ ಪ್ರಯತ್ನ ಪಡುವುದರ ಜೊತೆಗೆ ಸಮಯದ ಸದುಪಯೋಗ ಮತ್ತು ಹಣದ ಸದ್ಭಾಳಕೆ ಮಾಡುವ ಕೌಶಲವನ್ನು  ಪರಿಣಾಮಕಾರಿಯಾಗಿ ಬಳಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳಬೇಕು ಎಂದು ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿಗಳಿಗೆ ಕಿವಿಮಾತು ಹೇಳಿದರು.

ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮದಲ್ಲಿ ಗೌರವ ಉಪಸ್ಥಿತರಾದ ಅನೂಪ್ ಹೆಗ್ಡೆ ಅವರು ಮಾತನಾಡಿ, ಇಂದಿನ ಆಧುನಿಕ ಜಗತ್ತು ವೇಗವಾಗಿ ಬದಲಾಗುತ್ತಿದೆ, ಅದಕ್ಕೆ ತಕ್ಕಂತೆ ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿಗಳು ತಮ್ಮ ಕೌಶಲ್ಯಗಳನ್ನು ಬೆಳೆಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳಬೇಕು ಮತ್ತು ಜೀವನದಲ್ಲಿ ಸಿಗುವ ಎಲ್ಲಾ ಅವಕಾಶಗಳನ್ನು ಸದುಪಯೋಗಪಡಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳಬೇಕು ಎಂದು ಪ್ರೇರಣಾತ್ಮಕವಾಗಿ ಮಾತನಾಡಿದರು. ಕೆನರಾ ಬ್ಯಾಂಕ್‌ನ ಜನರಲ್ ಮ್ಯಾನೇಜರ್ ಬಿ. ಸುಧಾಕರ್ ಕೋಟರಿ ಅವರು ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿಗಳ ಯಶಸ್ಸಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಶೈಕ್ಷಣಿಕ ಜೀವನದ ಪ್ರಾಮುಖ್ಯತೆಯ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ತಿಳಿಸಿಕೊಟ್ಟರು.ಸಂಸ್ಥೆಯ ಸಂಚಾಲಕರಾದ ರೆ| ಫಾ| ಎಂ.ಸಿ. ಮಥಾಯ್ ಇವರು ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮದ ಅಧ್ಯಕ್ಷತೆ ವಹಿಸಿದ್ದರು

ಕಾಲೇಜಿನ ಪ್ರಾಂಶುಪಾಲರಾದ ಡಾ. ರೋಬರ್ಟ್ ರೋಡ್ರಿಗಸ್ ಇವರು ವಿಸ್ತ್ರತವಾದ ಕಾಲೇಜಿನ ವಾರ್ಷಿಕ ವರದಿಯನ್ನು ವಾಚಿಸಿದರು.  ಈ ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮದಲ್ಲಿ 2025-26ನೇ ಶೈಕ್ಷಣಿಕ ಸಾಲಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಸಾಧನೆಗೈದ ಸಾಧಕರನ್ನು ಸನ್ಮಾನಿಸಲಾಯಿತು. ಬಿ. ಎ ಪದವಿಯಲ್ಲಿ 10ನೇ ರ್ಯಂಕ್ ವಿಜೇತೆಯಾದ ಫಾತಿಮಾ ಶಾಲುಲ ಎ.ಹೆಚ್, ನಿವೃತ್ತಿ ಹೊಂದಲಿರುವ ಕಚೇರಿ ಸಿಬ್ಬಂದಿಗಳಾದ ಶ್ರೀ ಎರಿಕ್ ರೋಚ್ ಶ್ರೀ ಭಾಸ್ಕರ್ ಶೆಟ್ಟಿಗಾರ್, ಪಿ.ಹೆಚ್‌ಡಿ ಪದವೀಧರರಾದ  ಡಾ. ಭರತ್‌ರಾಜ್ ಮತ್ತು  ಡಾ. ಪ್ರಶಾಂತ್ ಶೆಟ್ಟಿ, ಅತಿಥಿಗಳಾದ ಶ್ರೀ ಸಂಪತ್ ಶೆಟ್ಟಿ, ಶ್ರೀ ಅನೂಪ್ ಹೆಗ್ಡೆ ಮತ್ತು ಶ್ರೀ ಸುಧಾಕರ್ ಕೋಟರಿ ಅವರನ್ನು ಈ ಸಂದರ್ಭದಲ್ಲಿ ಸನ್ಮಾನಿಸಲಾಯಿತು. ಕುಮಾರಿ ಸೃಷ್ಟಿ ತೃತೀಯ ಬಿ. ಕಾಮ್ ಇವರಿಗೆ 2025-26ನೇ ಸಾಲಿನ ಪ್ರವೀಣ್ ಶೆಟ್ಟಿ ಸ್ಮಾರಕ ಅತ್ಯುತ್ತಮ ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿ ಪ್ರಶಸ್ತಿಯನ್ನು ಪ್ರಧಾನ ಮಾಡಲಾಯಿತು. ಅದರೊಂದಿಗೆ ವಿವಿಧ ಕ್ಷೇತ್ರಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಸಾಧನೆ ಮಾಡಿದ ಕಾಲೇಜಿನ ಸಿಬ್ಬಂದಿ ಮತ್ತು ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿಗಳನ್ನು ಗುರುತಿಸಿ ಪುರಸ್ಕರಿಸಲಾಯಿತು. ಕಾಲೇಜಿನ ಉಪ ಪ್ರಾಂಶುಪಾಲರಾದ ಪ್ರಸನ್ನ ಶೆಟ್ಟಿ ಸ್ವಾಗತಿಸಿ, ಡಾ. ಮಂಜುನಾಥ್ ಉಡುಪ ವಂದನಾರ್ಪಣೆ ಮಾಡಿ, ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿನಿಯರಾದ ಶ್ರೇಯ ಮತ್ತು ರೆಹಾನಾ ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮವನ್ನು ನಿರೂಪಿಸಿದರು.

Brahmavar, May 9: Prize Distribution Day for the academic year 2025–2026 was celebrated at S.M.S. College, Brahmavar, at the Rev. Fr. P. G. Koshy Memorial Auditorium on May 9, 2026.

Mr. Sachin Poojary, Secretary of the Alumni Association, attended the programme as the Chief Guest. Addressing the gathering, he appreciated the achievements of the students and encouraged them to actively participate in both academic and co-curricular activities.

Mr. Sashidhar Poojary, alumnus of the college, was the Guest of Honour. The programme was presided over by Dr. Robert Rodrigues J, Principal of S.M.S. College. Lt. Ashwin Shetty A, IQAC Coordinator, was also present on the occasion.

During the programme, prizes were distributed to the winners of various academic and non-academic competitions conducted in connection with the Annual Day celebrations.

Ms. Sreelaxmi welcomed the gathering. Mrs. Chitra Shetty from the Department of Commerce and Ms. Ranjani from the Department of English read out the list of prize winners. Ms. Thrupthi of Final B.A. proposed the vote of thanks. Ms. Ambika and Ms. Supriya of I B.Com A served as masters of ceremony for the programme

SMS Cultural Team Overall Runners Up at Chittara Cultural Fest

The College Cultural Team proudly participated in the Intercollegiate Fest “Chittara” held on 30 April 2026 at Sri Sharadha College, Basrur, and delivered an impressive performance across various events. 

The team secured First Place in Group Filmy Dance, showcasing exceptional talent and coordination.With these remarkable achievements, the Cultural Team was declared Overall Runners-up in the fest and received a cash prize of ₹15,000, marking yet another milestone in their successful journey.

Spell Bee Competition

 

On the occasion of English Language Day, the Department of English organized a series of competitions for students on 30th April 2026. The events included Charades, Spell Bee, Puzzles, and Quiz. These activities were designed to enhance students’ vocabulary and language skills in an engaging and interactive way.

The students participated enthusiastically and showed great interest throughout the program. The competitions not only tested their knowledge but also helped them learn new words and improve their communication skills.

Brahmavar, April 2026: In a moment of great pride and academic distinction, SMS College Brahmavar has celebrated the remarkable achievement of two of its faculty members who have been awarded the prestigious Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degrees in their respective disciplines.

Dr. Prashanth Shetty of the Department of History, Ancient History, and Archaeology has been conferred a Ph.D. for his research on “A Study on the Prehistorical and Protohistorical Cultures of Coastal Karnataka with Special Reference to Udupi and Dakshina Kannada District.” His scholarly work provides valuable contributions to the understanding of early cultural developments in coastal Karnataka.

Simultaneously, Dr. Bharathraj S. Nejar, Head of the Department of Economics, has earned his Ph.D. from Kuvempu University for his research titled “Role of Roads in Rural Development – A Study in Udupi District.” His study highlights the significance of infrastructure, particularly rural roads, in fostering economic growth and development.

The twin achievement of both faculty members marks a significant milestone for the institution, reflecting its strong commitment to research excellence and higher education. The Management, Principal, staff, and students of the college expressed their heartfelt congratulations and noted that such accomplishments enhance the academic reputation of the institution.

The college community extended their best wishes to both scholars for continued success in their future academic and research endeavors.

Anti-Ragging, Legal Rights, and POSH awareness program

 The Anti-Ragging Cell of the college, in association with the IQAC, organized an awareness program on Anti-Ragging, Legal Rights, and POSH (Prevention of Sexual Harassment) on 16 April 2026. The session was led by Advocate Sunil S. Moolya, who served as the resource person and provided valuable insights on the topics. The gathering was addressed by the Principal, Dr. Robert Rodrigues J., who emphasized the importance of creating a safe and respectful campus environment. The program was successfully coordinated under the  leadership of Mrs. Chitra Shetty, Convener of the Anti-Ragging Cell.
