In a triumphant display of linguistic and cultural prowess, students from Saint Mary's Syrian College Brahmavar secured three  prizes at the Tulu Minadana Cultural Fest held at MSRS College Shirva on November 25, 2023.

In the Tulu Skit Drama category, their captivating performance earned them the second prize, showcasing their commitment to storytelling in the Tulu language. The students also dominated the Tulu Quiz, displaying their knowledge and understanding of Tulu heritage. Additionally, their literary flair in the Tulu Story Writing category brought home another prize.

The Tulu Minadana Cultural Fest served as a vibrant platform where Saint Mary's Syrian College Brahmavar students celebrated Tulu heritage, leaving an indelible mark as champions in Tulu storytelling, knowledge, and creativity. The event was specifically organized for B.A. English Optional students, offering a unique exploration into the philosophical foundations that have shaped literary landscapes.


Professor S. Namita Tolpadi, a distinguished retired English Professor from S.M.S Degree College, graciously shared her extensive expertise, delivering a vivid and insightful presentation on the renowned Greek philosophers.Prof. Tolpadi navigated through the philosophical realms of Plato and Aristotle, elucidating their profound contributions to the foundations of English literature.

On September 30th, 2023, the B.A. English Optional students, accompanied by their lecturers, embarked on a visit to the S.M.S English Medium Primary School, fostering a vibrant exchange of educational experiences. The students took on an active role in imparting knowledge through diverse activities such as drawing, singing rhymes, interactive games, and engaging exercises.

The primary objective of this program was to contribute to the educational enrichment of children in local schools. By sharing their skills and knowledge, the B.A. English Optional students aimed to fulfill a mission of imparting education and fostering learning within the community.

Activities and Outcomes:

1. Teaching Demonstrations: The students demonstrated teaching methodologies using creative tools like drawing, rhymes, and games, engaging the young minds in an interactive and enjoyable learning process.

The Department of English, in conjunction with the Department of History, Ancient History, and Archaeology, orchestrated a comprehensive Study Tour and Nature Camp for the B.A. students on November 17th, 2023. This educational venture aimed to provide an immersive learning experience by exploring significant cultural, historical landmarks and fostering an understanding of the intricate relationship between Literature and Nature.


 Students had the privilege to explore these historical sites like Nagara Fort, Ikkeri, Keladi, gaining insights into their cultural and historical significance. These locations offered a deeper understanding of the regional heritage, complementing the academic curriculum.

The visit to the cultural landmark Ramachandrapura Mata provided students with exposure to diverse cultural elements, enabling them to appreciate the richness of cultural heritage.

 Alongside these prominent sites, students were exposed to various educational and cultural landmarks, enhancing their learning experience.

Objectives and outcomes:

The primary aim of the tour was to offer students practical exposure, supplementing their academic curriculum. Exploring these historical and cultural sites firsthand provided a deeper understanding of the subjects studied in their coursework.

The S.M.S College wrestling team secured 3 silver 🥈 medals and claimed the OVER ALL THIRD PLACE in the Mangaluru University intercollegiate wrestling championship hosted at Sri Gokarnanatheshwara College, Mangalore.


 Rajath from I BA secured a silver 🥈 medal in the 125 kg freestyle category, Rakshath from III B.Com secured another silver 🥈 in the 97 kg freestyle category, and Jagannath from II BA also secured a silver 🥈 in the 87 kg freestyle category.

'Spandana' - the 43rd issue of College Magazine was released by Mr Ravindra Upadhyaya, the Principal of Government PU College, Brahmavar with a simple programme held at SMS Mini Auditorium on Friday, 17th November, 2023. The Chief Guest later in his speech focussed on the students' competitive world and how to cope with it. He advised the youth to make the best use of college magazine as a forum for unveiling their hidden literary talents. The Principal, Dr Manjunath Udupa K who presided over the programme said that the college magazine is the 'showcase' of the college reflecting all the curricular and co-curricular achievements.

The programme was started with an invocation led by 1st year students, Ms Sangeetha welcomed the gathering, the Chief Guest was introduced by Ms Suhana, Ms Ashwini proposed the vote of thanks, and Ms Aishwaryalaxmi beautifully compered the programme. Associate Editors Mr Jude Alfred Furtado, Mr Keerthi Shettigar, Mr Prakash Nayak, Mr Vadiraj, Mr Prashanth Shetty, Mr Prasanna Shetty and Mrs Violetine Lewis were on dais. The programme was attended by teaching and non-teaching staff, and students of Youth Red Cross, NSS and Literary Club.

The orientation program was conducted on November 16, 2023 to familiarize II and III Year B.Com & BA students with the opportunities and benefits associated with pursuing aviation courses. Mrs. Anushree Chandrashekhar shared her expertise and insights from the industry, emphasizing the value of aviation education in today's world.

The event commenced with a warm welcome by HRD Convenor Tweeny Maria Rodrigues, followed by enlightening remarks by Principal Dr. Manjunatha Udupa K. Mr. Ganesh, an esteemed alumnus, shared his experiences and emphasized the importance of supplementing education with additional courses.

The presence and contributions of the co-founders - Mr. Akshay, Mr. Abhishek, Mrs. Soniya, and Mr. Sharath - from Turnaround Aviation Academy and Kelasa Consultancy added depth and practicality to the session.

 In a collaborative effort to contribute to the noble cause of saving lives, Saint Mary's Syrian College in Brahmavar successfully organized a Blood Donation Drive on November 17, 2023. The event, held in association with NCC, NSS, Rover and Rangers, and the Youth Red Cross unit of the college, witnessed an overwhelming response from the Students.


Supported by key partners, including Lions Club Brahmavar, Rotary Club, Red Cross Unit Brahmavar and HDFC Bank, the initiative aimed to promote awareness about the critical need for blood donations and encourage individuals to participate in this life-saving endeavor.

The campus buzzed with activity as volunteers and donors gathered to make a meaningful impact.The collaborative effort of various college units and external organizations added a dynamic touch to the event, creating a sense of community involvement and shared responsibility.

Speaking about the event, Lt. The joint effort by the Cell for Prevention of Harassment of Women and the Anti-Ragging Cell brought together a significant discourse on "Gender Sensitization". Led by Mrs. Savitha Yermal, a revered lecturer from the Government PU College in Brahmavar, the session served as a catalyst for raising awareness on pertinent gender equality issues, using real-life examples to engage the attending audience.



In attendance were members of the Women's Forum and NSS, highlighting the diverse participation and support for such crucial initiatives. Mrs. Vanita Shetty, the Convenor of the cell, warmly introduced Mrs. Savitha Yermal, emphasizing the importance of her expertise and contribution to the event.
