 The National Cadet Corps (NCC) cadets of Saint Mary’s Syrian College, Brahmavar, actively participated in the World Rivers Day celebration near the Mabukala Bridge on the banks of the Sitha River. The event was organized to raise awareness about the significance of rivers and the need for their conservation.

The cadets engaged in a series of activities including a river clean-up drive, distribution of educational materials, and awareness campaigns. These initiatives aimed at educating the local community on the importance of preserving water bodies, particularly the Sitha River, for future generations. 

During the event, the cadets emphasized the critical role that rivers like the Sitha play in maintaining environmental balance and providing essential resources. The participants encouraged everyone to adopt sustainable practices and support ongoing efforts to protect natural water sources.

World Rivers Day is celebrated annually to highlight the global importance of rivers, and this initiative by the NCC cadets of Saint Mary’s Syrian College demonstrated their commitment to environmental preservation and community service.

ಮಹಿಳಾ ವೇದಿಕೆ ಎಸ್. ಎಮ್. ಎಸ್ ಕಾಲೇಜು ಬ್ರಹ್ಮಾವರ  ಹಾಗೂ ಲಯನ್ಸ್ ಹಾಗೂ ಲಿಯೋ ಕ್ಲಬ್ ಬ್ರಹ್ಮಾವರ ಜಂಟಿಯಾಗಿ ಆಯೋಜಿಸಿರುವ   ಸ್ತನ ಕ್ಯಾನ್ಸರ್ ಅರಿವು ಮಾಹಿತಿ ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮದಲ್ಲಿ ಸಂಪನ್ಮೂಲ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿಯಾಗಿ  ಕಸ್ತುರ್ಭ ಮೆಡಿಕಲ್ ಕಾಲೇಜಿನ ರೆಡಿಯೇಷನ್ ಅಂಕೊಲೋಜಿ ವಿಭಾಗದ ಮುಖ್ಯಸ್ಥರು ಆಗಿರುವ ಡಾ. ಶಾರ್ಲಿ ಲುವಿಸ್ ಸಾಲಿನ್ಸ್ ಅವರು ಉಪಸ್ಥಿತರಿದ್ದರು.

S.M.S. College, Brahmavar, organised an informative awareness programme on traffic rules and cyber crime at the Mini Auditorium, aimed at educating students on the importance of road safety and digital security. The event featured Mr. Bharath Raj S Nejar, Head of the Department of Economics, as the resource person.

The programme began with a formal welcome, with Thushar and Vighnesh of 2nd-year BCA skillfully conducting the event as the Masters of Ceremony.

 Mr. Bharath Raj S Nejar provided insightful information on the growing concerns around cybercrime and the critical need for adherence to traffic regulations, highlighting both the legal and social implications of neglecting these responsibilities.


The session saw active participation from the students, who were encouraged to ask questions and discuss their concerns. The event was graced by the presence of Principal Dr. Robert Rodrigues and Vice Principal Mr. Prasanna Shetty, who emphasized the importance of such initiatives in fostering responsible citizenship among students.

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks, leaving the attendees more informed and aware of the responsibilities they carry in both the physical and digital realms.

On 26th September 2024, Saint Mary's Syrian College, Brahmavara, organised an orientation program in collaboration with TIMES. The event featured resource persons Mr. Ashith Poojary and Ms. Jayalakshmi, who provided valuable insights on career development and preparation for competitive exams such as the Management Aptitude Test (MAT) and the Common Admission Test (CAT). 

They offered practical strategies to help students succeed in these exams, focusing on time management, problem-solving skills, and the importance of consistent practice. The session was well-received, enhancing students' understanding of the pathways to success in management education and competitive exams.

  The theme for the submissions included recent celebrations such as Teacher's Day, Raksha Bandhan, Ganesh Chaturthi, Krishna Janmastami, Nativity of Mother Mary and Eid.The event received an overwhelming responses from the students, reflecting their enthusiasm and creativity. The wide range of entries highlighted the cultural and festive spirit of the occasions celebrated.

The NSS units of S.M.S College, Brahmavar, celebrated the NSS Day with great enthusiasm and pride. The event commenced with the hoisting of the NSS flag by the Principal of the college, Dr. Robert Rodrigues,who took this opportunity to address the NSS volunteers. In his speech, Dr. Rodrigues highlighted the importance of community service and the role of NSS in shaping socially responsible citizens. He encouraged the volunteers to actively participate in NSS activities and contribute to the betterment of society.

The celebration was graced by the presence of the NSS Programme Officers, Mr. Prasanna Shetty and Mr. Prakash Nayak, who played a key role in organizing the event. Additionally, the Assistant Programme Officers, Ms. Keerthana, Ms. Kavitha and Ms. Sandhya, were also present and actively supported the event.

The teaching and non-teaching staff members of the college, along with the NSS volunteers, participated in the event, making it a grand success. Their collective efforts and enthusiasm added to the celebratory spirit of the day.

The NSS Day celebration at S.M.S College was a meaningful occasion that reinforced the values of service and commitment among the students, motivating them to contribute positively to society through their involvement in NSS activities.

The National Service Scheme (NSS) unit of SMS College, in association with the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), organized an Orientation Programme on Wednesday, September 18th, 2024. The event, aimed at guiding new NSS volunteers, was held at the college’s Mini-auditorium,  at 10:30 AM.

The resource person for the event was Mr. Prashanth Shetty, Assistant Professor in the Department of History & Archaeology. He provided valuable insights into the role of the NSS in nation-building and highlighted the importance of community service and leadership among students.

NSS Officer Mr. Prasanna Shetty and Mr. Prakash, along with NSS Assistant Officers Ms. Kavitha, Ms. Keerthana, and Ms. Sandhya were present in the Program. Principal Dr. Robert Rodrigues also graced the occasion, delivering an inspiring address to the NSS volunteers.

A large number of NSS volunteers attended the event, eager to begin their journey of service and development under the guidance of their officers and faculty.

The orientation served as a great starting point for the volunteers to understand the core objectives of the NSS and how they can actively contribute to society through their participation in various activities planned for the academic year.

Harmony Club of Saint Mary's Syrian College Organizes Drawing Competition to Celebrate International Day of Peace

September 18, 2024 – The Harmony Club of Saint Mary's Syrian College, organised a Drawing Competition today to commemorate the International Day of Peace. The event took place in the Main Auditorium from 1:15 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., attracting student participants eager to express their artistic talents in the spirit of peace.

The event was coordinated by Mrs. Prathima S and  Mrs.Chitra Shetty  Department of Commerce. Students were given the opportunity to creatively depict themes related to peace and harmony, reinforcing the message of unity and tranquility in society.

 Two-Day Soft Skills Training Program  for Final Year Students 

Sep.tember 14, 2024:

 A two-day soft skills training program was successfully conducted for the final year students of SMS College, Brahmavar, on the 13th and 14th of September. The programme was organized in collaboration with the Ramakrishna Hegde Skill Development Centre (RHSDC), a unit of Konkan Railway under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative.



The training sessions were held at the Seminar Hall of the RHSDC Centre, Udupi. The program aimed at enhancing the employability skills of students by focusing on various aspects of soft skills such as communication, teamwork, problem-solving, and leadership. 


Speaking on the occasion, the coordinators highlighted the importance of soft skills in today’s competitive job market and encouraged students to make the most of the learning opportunities provided through the program.


Students expressed their gratitude for the insightful sessions and praised the collaborative effort of SMS College and RHSDC for organizing such a beneficial program.

Saint Mary's Syrian College, Brahmavar, organized an insightful expert talk on the topic of "Indian Democracy" under the initiative of the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) and the Department of Political Science. Dr. Ashalatha, Assistant Professor of Political Science at Govinda Dasa College, Surathkal, was the distinguished guest speaker at the event.



Dr. Ashalatha’s in-depth insights on the democratic framework of India left a profound impression on both students and faculty members.  

Principal Dr. Robert Rodrigues, Mrs. Mamatha Mary Ammana, Head of the Department of Political Science, IQAC Coordinator Mr. Ashwin Shetty, Mr. Laxminarayan nayk , assistant professor  Department of Political Science and Vice Principal Mr. Prasanna Shetty graced the occasion, sharing the stage with the guest speaker. 

Sirsti from I BCA served as the Master of Ceremony, while Pawan from II B.A. welcomed gathering ,Mehenaz from I BCA introduced the guest, and Deeksha from I BCA delivered the vote of thanks. 

The event was a testament to the college’s commitment to fostering academic growth and promoting active discussions on relevant political topics, leaving the audience enriched with valuable knowledge.

Brahmavar, 5 September 2024: 

Saint Mary's Syrian College, Brahmavar, marked an eventful day as it organized the inauguration of the Students' Welfare Council for the academic year 2024-25 in conjunction with Teachers' Day celebrations. The program, held at the Main Auditorium of the college, began at 11:00 a.m. with esteemed guests, faculty, and students in attendance.

The event was presided over by Rev. Fr. M.C. Mathai, President of OSC Educational Society (R), Brahmavar. The inauguration was graced by the presence of Prof. Sakharam Somayaji, a retired professor from Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), Delhi, and the President of the Alumni Association (R) SMS College, who served as the chief guest and inaugurated the Students' Welfare Council and the Guest of Honor, Mr. Alvaris D'Silva, Secretary of the College Section at OSC Educational Society (R), Brahmavar.


Following the formal inauguration of the Students' Welfare Council, the Teachers' Day celebration took center stage. The college paid tribute to Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, former President of India and renowned philosopher, whose birthday is commemorated as Teachers' Day in India. A floral tribute was offered to Dr. Radhakrishnan's portrait as a gesture of respect and admiration for his contributions to education.


The program also featured by newly appointed members of the Students' Welfare Council, led by Mr. Deekshith Y S, President of the Council. Other key members include Ms. Aishwaryalakshmi, Secretary, Mr. Vignesh Pai, Joint Secretary, Mr. Chandra, Vice President, and Ms. Chaithra, Vice President. They expressed their enthusiasm for the upcoming academic year and outlined their vision for student welfare initiatives.


The event concluded with a vote of thanks and a warm reception for the faculty members, acknowledging their pivotal role in shaping the future of students. The management,  alumni, staff, and students of the college actively participated in making the event a grand success.

ದಿನಾಂಕ 3/9/2024 ರಂದು ಮಹಿಳಾ ಸಂಘದ ಆಶ್ರಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಕಾಲೇಜಿನ ಮಿನಿ ಸಭಾಂಗಣದಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ರಥಮ ವರ್ಷದ ಎಲ್ಲಾ ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿನಿಯರಿಗೆ ಮಾಹಿತಿ ಕಾರ್ಯಾಗಾರವನ್ನು ಆಯೋಜಿಸಲಾಯಿತು. ಈ ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮದ ಅಧ್ಯಕ್ಷತೆಯನ್ನು ಕಾಲೇಜಿನ ಪ್ರಾಂಶುಪಾಲರಾದ ಡಾ. ರಾಬರ್ಟ್ ರೋಡ್ರಿಗಸ್ ಅವರು ವಹಿಸಿದರು. ಮಹಿಳಾ ವೇದಿಕೆಯ ಸಂಯೋಜಕರಾದ ಡಾ. ವಿದ್ಯಾಲತಾ ಹಾಗೂ ಶ್ರೀಮತಿ ಜ್ಯೋತಿ ವೇದಿಕೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಉಪಸ್ಥಿತರಿದ್ದರು. 


 ಮಹಿಳಾ ಆರೋಗ್ಯ, ಭದ್ರತೆ ಹಾಗೂ ಆತ್ಮವಿಶ್ವಾಸ ಕುರಿತು ಹಲವಾರು ಮಾಹಿತಿಗಳನ್ನು ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿನಿಯರಿಗೆ ನೀಡಲಾಯ್ತು .ಕಾರ್ಯಾಗಾರದಲ್ಲಿ ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿನಿಯರು ಸಕ್ರಿಯವಾಗಿ  ಭಾಗವಹಿಸಿದರು .
