SMS College, Brahmavar has once again showcased its sporting excellence by emerging as the Champions of the Mangalore University Inter-Collegiate Women's Cricket Tournament for the 4th time. The victorious team displayed remarkable skill and determination throughout the tournament, bringing pride to the institution.

Adding to the celebrations, Swarnagowri was awarded the Best Bowler title for her outstanding performance, while Laxmi was honored as the Player of the Series, showcasing exceptional all-round capabilities.

The management, principal, and staff congratulated the team and coaches for their exemplary achievement, attributing their success to consistent practice, teamwork, and commitment. The college continues to inspire young sportswomen in the region with such accomplishments.

On 7th March 2025, the Rovers and Rangers of St. Mary's Syrian College, Brahmavar, embarked on an exciting trekking and nature study camp to Kyatanmakki Hills, Samse, and Horanadu. The camp was an enriching experience that allowed students to immerse themselves in the beauty of nature, engage in adventure, and enhance their understanding of the environment.


The students had the opportunity to explore the picturesque landscapes of Kyatanmakki Hills, with its lush greenery, diverse wildlife, and scenic views. During the trek, the participants learned about the importance of preserving nature and its various ecosystems. The nature study component of the camp focused on educating the students about environmental conservation, biodiversity, and the crucial role of hills and forests in maintaining ecological balance.


 The journey to Samse and Horanadu further enriched their experience, as they interacted with the local community and explored the cultural significance of the regions.


Overall, the camp proved to be a memorable and educational experience, helping the students foster a deeper connection with nature while cultivating a sense of adventure and environmental awareness.

SMS College Secures Fourth Place in Mangalore University Women's Throwball Tournament



Brahmavar, April 4, 2025 – The Mangalore University Inter-Collegiate Women’s Throwball Tournament (Udupi Zone) was successfully held at Pompei College, Aikala, on April 3 and 4, 2025. The tournament witnessed intense competition among teams from various colleges under Mangalore University.


Vaishnavi G. Suvarna of SMS College, Brahmavar, was awarded the prestigious Best All-Rounder title for her exceptional performance, showcasing outstanding skills in both attack and defense throughout the tournament.

The women's team of SMS College, Brahmavar, delivered a commendable performance and secured fourth place in the tournament, demonstrating teamwork and resilience against strong opponents.

The event highlighted the growing talent in women’s throwball in the Udupi Zone and reinforced the significance of sports in academic institutions. The college management and faculty congratulated the team for their spirited performance and extended their best wishes for future tournaments.

Anti-Ragging & Cyber Crime Awareness Programme Held at SMS College



Brahmavar, April 4, 2025 – SMS College, in association with the IQAC and the Anti-Ragging Cell, organized an Anti-Ragging & Cyber Crime Awareness Programme at the college's Mini-Auditorium. The event aimed to raise awareness among students about the legal consequences of ragging and the increasing threats of cybercrime.

The programme was presided over by Dr. Robert Rodrigues, Principal of SMS College, who emphasized the institution’s commitment to maintaining a ragging-free and cyber-safe campus. He urged students to be responsible citizens and report any instances of misconduct.

Steevan Victor Lewis, Advocate & Notary, and Registrar of Christian Marriages, was the guest speaker. He provided valuable insights into the legal implications of ragging and cybercrime, highlighting the importance of ethical behavior and digital security.

Mrs. Chithra Shetty, Convenor of the Anti-Ragging Cell, was also present and spoke on the strict measures taken by the college to prevent ragging.

"Tech Quest 2.0"

 

"Tech Quest 2.0"

On 28th March 2025, the Bachelor of Computer Applications  Department, in collaboration with the IT Association and Institution's Innovation Council (IIC), successfully hosted the  *"Tech Quest 2.0"* Program. The event was designed to bring together students, faculty, and professionals to explore and enhance their skills in the ever-evolving field of Information Technology. The program aimed to provide participants with insights into the latest technological trends, practical skills, and career opportunities.


The inauguration ceremony marked the official start of the program, setting an inspiring tone for the day’s events. The ceremony was graced by the presence of distinguished guests,  Mr.Naveen D Almeida, an esteemed alumnus of the institution, and Dr. Robert Rodrigues J , the respected Principal of the institution.

Students are actively participated in 

 1. Tech-talk:

              The Tech-Talk Event focused on student-led discussions surrounding the most current and emerging IT trends. The event encouraged students to conduct research,  and engage in interactive dialogues with their peers. The aim was not only to improve public speaking and presentation skills but also to promote critical thinking about how these trends are shaping the future of technology.


 2. IT Quiz:

The IT Quiz Event was a fast-paced competition that brought together students from different years of the BCA program to compete in teams. The quiz covered a wide range of IT-related topics, including programming languages and emerging technologies.


 3.Web designing:

The Web Designing Event provided students with an opportunity to engage in practical web development tasks using CSS for styling and JavaScript for interactivity. Participants were tasked with building a functional, visually appealing website within a specific time frame, incorporating both design and interactivity. This event not only helped participants strengthen their technical skills but also fostered creativity in web design.


 4.Debugging competition

The Debugging Competition was designed to assess students’ abilities to analyze code, identify logical and syntactical errors, and apply troubleshooting techniques to ensure that the programs run smoothly. The competition aimed to provide participants with hands-on experience in debugging and to highlight the importance of attention to detail, logical thinking, and perseverance in software development.


 5.Free fire:

The Free Fire Game Competition was an exhilarating event that combined gaming and technology in the spirit of friendly competition. Participants formed teams and battled it out in the virtual world of Free Fire to claim the top prize. The competition brought together gaming enthusiasts, fostering a sense of camaraderie among the participants while also offering a platform to showcase strategic thinking, teamwork, and coordination.


 *6. BGMI:*

The BGMI Competition was designed to bring together gaming enthusiasts from the campus and provide them with a platform to compete in a highly competitive, fast-paced environment. The tournament followed a team-based format, with participants forming squads to compete against each other in the battle royale game. The event not only allowed students to test their gaming prowess but also fostered teamwork, collaboration, and strategic planning.


 7.Asphalt:

The Asphalt Game Competition was aiming to bring a mix of entertainment and friendly competition. Asphalt, a fast-paced mobile racing game, was chosen for its engaging gameplay, stunning graphics, and appeal to a wide range of players.


In the valedictory program, the chief guest, Mr. Delwin Dsouza, and the principal, Dr. Robert Rodrigues J., joined the event to present the prizes to the winners of the IT Fest.

Brahmavar, March 26, 2025: The students of Saint Mary's Syrian College, Brahmavar, showcased their exceptional talents at the Tulu competitions organized by the Karnataka Tulu Sahitya Academy in association with Tulu Parishad, Mangalore, held yesterday.





The college bagged multiple prizes in various categories. The Fashion Show team, led by Namana from Final Year B.Com (B), secured the second place, impressing the judges with their creativity and presentation. Abhijna from I B.A. won the third place in the Tulu Speech competition, demonstrating outstanding oratory skills. In the Drawing Competition, Aditya N. Devadiga from II BCA secured the first place, showcasing remarkable artistic talent.

The students' achievements highlight their dedication and passion for Tulu culture and arts. The college congratulates all the winners and participants for their commendable performances and encourages them to continue excelling in cultural and literary events.

Brahmavar: The Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of Saint Mary’s Syrian College, Brahmavar, successfully organized a Faculty Development Programme (FDP) on "Fostering Positive Human Relationships in Academia" on March 20, 2025, at the Conference hall.

The session was conducted by Prof. Sakharama Somayaji, Former Professor, NTPC School of Business, Delhi. He shared valuable insights on the importance of positive relationships in academic institutions and provided strategies for fostering a collaborative and healthy work environment.


The event saw active participation from faculty members, who engaged in discussions and interactive sessions. The management, principal, and organizing committee expressed gratitude to all attendees for making the event a success.

Among the standout players, Krishna was awarded the 'Best Defender' title, while Vignesh was recognized as the 'All-Rounder' for his outstanding contribution to the game.

 Raw & Ready: Inter-Class Cooking Without Fire Competition at Saint Mary’s Syrian College


Brahmavar, March 17, 2025 – The Humanities Association, in collaboration with the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of Saint Mary’s Syrian College, Brahmavar, successfully hosted the inter-class "Cooking Without Fire" competition titled Raw & Ready on the college campus. This event aimed to promote healthy eating habits and enhance students' creativity by encouraging fireless cooking techniques.

Students enthusiastically participated, showcasing their culinary skills by preparing nutritious and innovative dishes without using fire. The competition emphasized the importance of fresh ingredients, nutrition, and alternative cooking methods.

Participants prepared salads, sandwiches, desserts, and other creative dishes, which were judged based on creativity, presentation, nutritional value, and taste. Faculty members  appreciated the students' remarkable efforts and unique dish presentations. Adding a unique entrepreneurial aspect to the event, students also set up stalls to sell their prepared dishes, receiving an overwhelming response from their peers and faculty.

With a perfect blend of fun, learning, and health awareness, Raw & Ready proved to be an inspiring platform for students to experiment with fireless cooking, adopt healthy eating habits, and gain hands-on experience in selling their creations.
