 Dengue and Cholera Awareness Programme

The NSS Unit of S.M.S. College, Brahmavar, organized a special lecture on “Dengue and Cholera Awareness.”Dr. Mahesh Aithal explained the symptoms, causes, and preventive measures of these diseases, stressing cleanliness, safe drinking water, and timely medical care. The session was presided over by Principal Dr. Robert Rodrigues, who emphasized the importance of health awareness. NSS Programme Officer Mr. Prasanna Shetty welcomed the gathering, and Programme Officers Mr. Prakash, assistant program officers Dr. Manjunath Udupa, and Ms. Ranjini were present. NSS volunteers from first and second year actively participated. The programme was compered by Ms. Sahana and Mr. Vikhil, and Mr. Sujan proposed the vote of thanks.

ಎಸ್.ಎಂ.ಎಸ್. ಕಾಲೇಜು, ಬ್ರಹ್ಮಾವರದ ಎನ್.ಎಸ್.ಎಸ್. ಘಟಕದ ವತಿಯಿಂದ “ಡೆಂಗ್ಯೂ ಮತ್ತು ಕಾಲರಾ ಜಾಗೃತಿ” ಕುರಿತ ವಿಶೇಷ ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮವನ್ನು ಆಯೋಜಿಸಲಾಯಿತು.ಈ ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮದ ಅಂಗವಾಗಿ ಎನ್.ಎಸ್.ಎಸ್. ಸ್ವಯಂಸೇವಕರು ವಾರಂಬಳ್ಳಿ ಗ್ರಾಮ ಪಂಚಾಯತ್ ವ್ಯಾಪ್ತಿಯ ಇಂದಿರಾ ನಗರ ಪ್ರದೇಶದ ಮನೆ ಮನೆಗೆ ಭೇಟಿ ನೀಡಿ, ಡೆಂಗ್ಯೂ ಮತ್ತು ಕಾಲರಾ ರೋಗಗಳ ಲಕ್ಷಣಗಳು, ಕಾರಣಗಳು ಹಾಗೂ ತಡೆಗಟ್ಟುವ ಕ್ರಮಗಳ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಸಾರ್ವಜನಿಕರಿಗೆ ಜಾಗೃತಿ ಮೂಡಿಸಿದರು. ಅವರು ಶುದ್ಧ ಕುಡಿಯುವ ನೀರಿನ ಬಳಕೆ, ಪರಿಸರದ ಸ್ವಚ್ಛತೆ, ನಿಂತ ನೀರಿನ ನಿವಾರಣೆ, ಮತ್ತು ಸಮಯೋಚಿತ ವೈದ್ಯಕೀಯ ಚಿಕಿತ್ಸೆ ಅಗತ್ಯತೆಯ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ವಿವರಿಸಿದರು.ಈ ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮಕ್ಕೆ ಎನ್.ಎಸ್.ಎಸ್. ಯೋಜನಾಧಿಕಾರಿ ಶ್ರೀ ಪ್ರಸನ್ನ ಶೆಟ್ಟಿ ಅವರು ನೇತೃತ್ವ ವಹಿಸಿದ್ದರು. ಇವರಿಗೆ ಹಿರಿಯ ಎನ್.ಎಸ್.ಎಸ್. ಸ್ವಯಂಸೇವಕರು ಸಹಕರಿಸಿದರು.

 “Vigilance Our Shared Responsibility” – Vigilance Awareness Week 2025 Observed at SMS College, Brahmavar



Brahmavar, Oct. 27:

SMS college Brahmavar, IQAC in association with Lokayukta police, Udupi organised" Vigilance awareness week 2025" .The event was inaugurated by Honourable Justice kiran S. Gangannanavar  session judge udupi , Honourable District and Sessions Judge, Udupi, by lighting the ceremonial lamp.Sri Manjunath, Police Inspector and In-charge Deputy Superintendent of Police, delivered the welcome and introductory address, emphasizing the importance of legal awareness among students.Sri Bharath Raj S. Nejar, introduced the guests and dignitaries on the dais.

Sri Manu Patil, Senior Civil Judge and District Member Secretary, District Legal Services Authority, Udupi, delivered an inspiring address highlighting the significance of legal services and the students’ role in upholding justice and integrity.Dr. Robert Rodrigues J, Principal of SMS College, administered the oath of legal and social responsibility to the students.

In his presidential address, Rev. Fr. M.C. Mathai, Correspondent of SMS College, urged the youth to respect the law and uphold moral values in society.Sri Alvaris D’Silva, Administrative Secretary of the College, was also present on the dais.

At the end of the programme, Sri Rajendra Naik M.N., Police Inspector, proposed the vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to all guests and participants.The event was compered by Prashanth Shetty.The programme was jointly organized by the Udupi District Lokayukta Police Department and SMS College, Brahmavar, with the aim of promoting awareness on the collective responsibility of vigilance.

 Cybercrime and Anti-Ragging programme 

The Department of Post Graduation, in collaboration with the Anti-Ragging Cell, organized a comprehensive awareness program on Cybercrime and Anti-Ragging. Mr. Vital M. and Mr. Jaykumar, Assistant Sub-Inspectors from the Brahmavar Police Station, were the esteemed resource persons for the session. They delivered an engaging and informative presentation highlighting the various forms of cybercrime, the serious implications such crimes have on individuals and society, and shared practical measures for safeguarding oneself in the digital age. They also addressed the critical issue of ragging, emphasizing legal consequences and the importance of maintaining a safe and respectful campus environment.

The college principal, Dr. Robert Rodriguez J., addressed the gathering, stressing the growing significance of digital awareness and the collective responsibility in fostering a secure academic atmosphere. The event was successfully coordinated under the leadership of Mrs. Chitra Shetty, Convener of the Anti-Ragging Cell, and Mrs. Prathima S., Postgraduate Coordinator. The program saw enthusiastic participation from teaching and non-teaching staff, along with a large number of students, contributing to its overall success.

Industrial Visit

IT Association:Industrial Visit 

The Department of Computer Applications and the IT Association, under the guidance of IQAC, organized an industrial visit for the final-year BCA students on 16th October 2025 to the "Manipal Skill Development Centre". The visit offered students an enriching learning experience, allowing them to explore modern facilities and equipment used for practical training in emerging technologies, IT, and design.

 The centre’s curriculum emphasizes both technical and soft skills, guided by instructors with real-world expertise. Students also learned about opportunities for internships, placement assistance, upskilling, and entrepreneurship, making the visit both informative and inspiring.

The visit enriched their practical knowledge and helped them understand the real-world applications of concepts learned in the classroom.

Leadership Training Programme

 Leadership Training Programme

The Student Welfare Council of SMS College, Brahmavar, organized a Leadership Training Programme on 29.09.2025 in the College Mini Auditorium. The resource person for the session was Mr. Ajith, a renowned Personality and Leadership Trainer from Karkala. The programme was presided over by the Principal, Dr. Robert Rodrigues J.

In his session, Mr. Ajith engaged the participants through interactive activities, case studies, and motivational inputs. He emphasized the essential qualities of an effective leader such as vision, communication, teamwork, decision-making, and empathy. He also guided students on balancing academic responsibilities with leadership duties, time management, and problem-solving skills.

The training was highly participatory, with council members actively involved in role-plays, group discussions, and self-assessment exercises. The resource person stressed the importance of developing a positive attitude and strong personality traits to emerge as responsible leaders in both academic and social spheres.

The programme was attended by IQAC Co-ordinator Lt. Ashwin Shetty A., Student Welfare Council Director Mr. Prashantha Shetty, Co-Director Ms. Supreetha, and the office bearers of the U.G. and P.G. Student Welfare Councils.

The event was well-coordinated with Mr. Yuvaraj of II B.C.A as the Master of Ceremony. The welcome address was delivered by Sruti of III B.Com B, the guest introduction by Divya of II B.Com B, and the vote of thanks by Adithya of III B.C.A (I Batch).

Overall, the Leadership Training Programme proved to be highly insightful and motivating, equipping the Student Welfare Council members with practical skills and confidence to perform their roles effectively.

INSIGNIA 2.0

 The Department of Computer applications in collaboration with IT Association organized an interclass Logo Making Competition “INSIGNIA 2.0” for BCA students on 27 September 2025 to showcase their creativity and design skills. Students enthusiastically participated, presenting innovative logos with unique ideas. It provided a platform for students to express creativity through art and technology.


The Interclass Competitions for BCA students featured three creative events — Logo Design on computer, Logo Design on floor, and Tech+Art Craft design related to technical theme. Students actively showcased their innovative ideas and artistic talents. The competitions were judged by our proud alumni Mr.Shonith, Mr.Rajesh and Ms.Gouthami, whose presence inspired and motivated the participants. All staff members attended the event, encouraging the students and making the program a memorable success. The best entries were appreciated for their originality, creativity and presentation.

 Department of Economics organised - “Learn & Earn – Self Employment Opportunities” Programme 

Saint Mary’s Syrian College, Brahmavar,Department of Economics , under IQAC intiative ,organised a special programme “Learn & Earn – Self Employment Opportunities” on 26th September 2025 at the College Mini Auditorium. The session was aimed at creating awareness among students about the importance of self-employment and skill-based opportunities for sustainable livelihood.

The programme commenced with a prayer by Soujanya, invoking blessings for the success of the event. The gathering was warmly welcomed by Pawan, followed by an introductory speech by Mr. Bharathraj S. Nejar, Head of the Department of Economics, who highlighted the relevance of self-employment in today’s economy.

The event was presided over by the  Principal, Dr. Robert Rodrigues J, who in his presidential address stressed the need for skill development, innovation, and entrepreneurial mindsets among youth to address the challenges of unemployment.

The resource person of the day, Dr. Bommaiah M, Director of RUDSET Brahmavar and Senior Manager,  delivered an insightful session on self-employment opportunities, government support schemes, and the importance of developing technical and business skills to achieve financial independence. 

Adding an interactive dimension to the programme, Mr. B. Santosh Shetty, Faculty at RUDSET, engaged the students in group games and activities, which enhanced participation and team spirit.

The formal vote of thanks was proposed by Mayuri, acknowledging the efforts of the organisers and participants. The programme was efficiently compered by Abhijna.

The event concluded on an inspiring note, leaving students motivated to explore self-employment as a path towards empowerment and growth

 Experiential Learning through Industrial Visit – Campco Chocolate Factory

The Department of Commerce and the Commerce Association, under the guidance of IQAC, organized an industrial visit to the Campco Chocolate Factory, Puttur for the B.Com students.

The primary objective of the visit was to provide students with practical exposure to the functioning of a large-scale industry, to understand the stages of production, and to link theoretical knowledge with real-world applications.

During the visit, students were given an insightful orientation on the history and operations of Campco, followed by a guided tour of the factory. They observed the various stages of chocolate production, including processing, packaging, and quality control. The resource persons also explained the importance of supply chain management, marketing strategies, and the role of innovation in sustaining growth in the competitive chocolate industry.

The visit was highly beneficial as it enhanced the students’ knowledge of industrial processes, teamwork, and corporate culture. It also motivated them to think about entrepreneurial opportunities and career prospects in the food processing sector.

The Department of Commerce expresses its gratitude to the management of Campco for their hospitality, and to the IQAC for their guidance and support in organizing this visit successfully.
