 Two-Day Soft Skills Training Program for Final Year Students 



*Udupi, 17 June 2024* — SMS College, in collaboration with the Ramakrishna Hegde Skill Development Centre (RHSDC), a unit of Konkan Railway under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative, successfully conducted a two-day soft skills training program. The event took place from 14th June to 15th June 2024 at the Seminar Hall, RHSDC Center, Udupi Railway Station, Kunjibettu, Udupi.


The training program was specifically designed for final year students, focusing on enhancing essential soft skills such as communication, teamwork, problem-solving, and leadership. A total of 103 students participated in this initiative, demonstrating a keen interest in developing competencies that are crucial for their professional growth and employability.


The sessions were interactive and practical, providing students with the opportunity to engage in various activities and workshops aimed at improving their interpersonal skills and confidence. Expert trainers from the Ramakrishna Hegde Skill Development Centre facilitated the program, sharing their extensive knowledge and experience.




Students provided positive feedback, noting that the training was insightful and beneficial for their future careers. This initiative underscores the commitment of both SMS College and Konkan Railway to contribute to the holistic development of students, preparing them for the challenges of the professional world.

The Anti-Ragging Cell organized a talk on "Anti-Ragging Awareness and Legal Awareness" on 5 June 2024. Mr. Steven Victor Lewis, advocate and notary, served as the resource person, discussing legal measures against ragging and its consequences.


The event was presided over by Principal Dr. Manjunath Udupa, with Mrs. Chitra Shetty, the cell convenor, delivering the welcome address. Srinidhi from III B.Com A served as the master of ceremonies, and Deeksha from III B.Com B gave the vote of thanks.

The talk was well-received, enhancing students' understanding of the importance of maintaining a ragging-free campus.

Brahamavar, May 17, 2024 — Members of the Women's Forum of Saint Mary's Syrian College, led by convenors Mrs. Vanitha Shetty and Mrs. Jyothi, visited Karunalaya Old Age Home today.

 The forum members spent quality time with the residents, engaging in conversations, sharing stories, and participating in various activities designed to bring joy and a sense of companionship to the elderly. The visit aimed to foster intergenerational bonds and provide emotional support to the senior citizens, many of whom often experience loneliness and isolation.

Brahmavar, May 11, 2024: 

Saint Mary's Syrian College (SMS) in Brahmavar recently buzzed with excitement and fervor as it hosted the much-anticipated SMS Premier League Season 3 (SPL-3) cricket tournament from May 10th to May 11th, 2024, at the SMS College Ground.



Eight teams, comprised entirely of SMS college students, showcased their cricketing prowess in the fast-paced 6-over format, delighting spectators with thrilling matches and nail-biting finishes.


In a testament to the college's sporting spirit, SMS Titans, SMS Royals, SMS Strikers, SMS Stars, SMS Challengers, SMS Warriors, SMS Legends, and SMS Kings battled it out on the field, each vying for the coveted SPL-3 championship title.




The SMS Legends, owned by Alen Rohan Vaz, emerged as the champions among the boys' teams, displaying exceptional skills and teamwork throughout the tournament. Led by their captain, the SMS Legends clinched victory with remarkable performances from every member of the team.

On the other hand, the girls' team, SMS Panthers, led by their owner Sinchana, showcased their talent and determination, winning hearts with their spirited gameplay and sportsmanship.

The SMS Premier League Season 3 also witnessed enthusiastic participation from team mentors Prashanth Shetty, Arun, Prashanth Devadiga, Harish, Prasanna Shetty, Vignesh Padiyar, Vadiraj, Sandhya, and Varshitha, who provided guidance and support to the budding cricketers.

Madhusudan Rexon, Milton Almeda, Vinny, Alvaries, Joyson, Joel, Venkatesh Bhat, Ashwin, Bharath Raj, Chidananda Rao, and Francis, along with the two girls' team owners, Asha Vaz and Sinchana, played pivotal roles in shaping the success of SPL-3 with their leadership and encouragement.

The SMS Premier League Season 3 not only showcased the sporting talent of the SMS College students but also fostered a sense of camaraderie and sportsmanship, reflecting the college's commitment to holistic development and excellence in sports.

As the curtains draw on SPL-3, the SMS College community eagerly awaits the next edition of this exhilarating cricket extravaganza, poised to create more memorable moments on the field and celebrate the spirit of sportsmanship and camaraderie.

 SMS College, Brahmavar - Annual General Meeting of PTA





The Annual General Meeting of Parent–Teachers Association was conducted on 4th May, 2024. The programme was arrangrd at the Main Auditorium of the college. Prior to the stage programme the parents were welcomed at the Reception counter and therby served with refreshments at the College Food-Court. At 10 O’Clock the formal programme started. Rev Fr Lawrence DSouza who is an allumnus as well as a parent chaired the meeting. The prayer was led by the College Choir group. Ms Chitra Shetty (Dept of Commerce) welcomed all those gathered.

PTA Secretary Mr Alfred Furtado (Dept. of English) presented a brief report of last year’s activities opf the Association which was followed by the financial report presented by Dr Vidyalatha (Treasurer of PTA).


Ms Suprita (Dept. of Computer Applications) gave a brief introduction of the Guest Speaker and formeer HoD of English, Prof. S. Namita Tolpadi. In her key-note address Prof. Namita spoke about the merits and demerits of IT and AI, she advised the parents to keep an eye on the behaviour of their children. She remembered her eraly years of teaching career, students’ demeanor, the changing values etc.

The students who excelled in curricular as well as co-curicular activities were duely honoured. Dr. Vidyalatha who completed her PhD was facilitated for her achievement. Mr Robert Crasta, who had served the College for 37 years as an Office Staff was honoured. Principal Dr. Manjunatha Udupa in his speech spoke about the special features of the College and thanked thee College Management in providing all possible aids. Mr. Praveen Shetty (PTA President) spoke on behalf of all parents. Rev. Fr. Lawrence DSouza in his Presidential Remarks appreciated the goodwill of the parents towards the College. Mr. Alvaris Dsliva, Secretary-College Section (OSCES) and Mr. Harshavardhan Shetty (PTA Vice Presideent) were the other dignitaries at the dais.

The programme was ended with the vote of thanks Dr Vidyalatha. Ms Asha TK and Ms Vanitha Shety (both from Dept. of Commerce) neately compered the programme with an assistance of Ms. Keerthana (Dept. of Economics)

An interaction between parents and teachers was held at respective class-rooms and the extracts of studeents’ academic performance was showed to the parents.

ಅಂತರ್ ಕಾಲೇಜು ಸಂಗೀತಾ ಸ್ಪರ್ಧೆ 2024. ಕಾಲೇಜಿನ ಮಿನಿ ಸಭಾಂಗಣದಲ್ಲಿ ನೆರವೇರಿತು ವಹಿಸಿದ್ದರು ಮುಖ್ಯ ಅಥಿತಿಗಳಾದ ಕಲಾವಿದೆ ಛಾಯಗ್ರಾಹಕಿ ಶ್ರೀಮತಿ ಸುಜಾತ ಆಂದ್ರಾದೆ ಅವರು ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮವನ್ನು ಉದ್ಘಾಟಿಸಿದರು. ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮದ ಅಧ್ಯಕ್ಷತೆಯನ್ನು ಕಾಲೇಜಿನ ಸಂಚಾಲಕರಾದ ರೆ.ಫಾ.ಎಂ.ಸಿ ಮಾಥಾಯಿ ಅವರು ವಹಿಸಿದ್ದರು.

ಒಟ್ಟು 11 ಕಾಲೇಜುಗಳ ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿಗಳು ಭಾಗವಹಿಸಿದ್ದರು ಸಮಾರೋಪ ಸಮಾರಂಭದ ಮುಖ್ಯ ಅತಿಥಿಗಳಾದ ಶ್ರೀಮತಿ ಸುಮಂಗಲಿ ಸುಧಾಕಾರ್ ರವರು ಮತ್ತು ಓ.ಎಸ್.ಸಿ ಉಪಾಧ್ಯಕ್ಷರು ರೆ.ಪಾ ಬೋರನ್ಸ್ ಡಿ'ಸೋಜ ರವರು ವಿಜೇತರಿಗೆ ಬಹುಮಾನಗಳನ್ನು ನೀಡಿದರು. ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮದಲ್ಲಿ ಕಾಲೇಜಿನ ಪ್ರಾಂಶುಪಾಲಾರಾವ ಡಾ.ಮಂಜುನಾಥ ಉಡುಪ ಕೆ ಆಡಳಿತ ಮಂಡಳಿಯ ಸದಸ್ಯರು ಹಾಗೂ ಲಲಿತಾಕಲಾ ಸಂಘದ ಅಧ್ಯಾಪಕ ಸಲಹೆಗಾರವಾದ ಆಶಾ ಟಿ ಕೆ , ಲಕ್ಷ್ಮಿನಾರಾಯಣ.ಜಯಶ್ರೀ ಮತ್ತು ಲಲಿತಾಕಲಾ ಸಂಘದ ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿಗಳು ಉಪಸ್ಥಿತರಿದ್ದರು.

The Department of English at Saint Mary's Syrian College Brahamavar  organized an enriching workshop focused on "Creative Writing related to Poetry and Drama" on April 18, 2024. The event aimed to inspire students to explore their creativity and hone their writing skills in the realms of poetry and drama.


The workshop featured esteemed resource person Prof. T.P. Baburaj, a distinguished former Principal and Head of the English Department. Prof. Baburaj, with his wealth of experience and expertise, guided the students on the art of creative expression, urging them to immerse themselves in the world of literature.


During the session, Prof. Baburaj emphasized the importance of reading extensively, writing passionately, and allowing imagination to take flight. He encouraged students to embrace their creative instincts and explore diverse themes and narratives in their poetic and dramatic endeavors.


In his address, Prof. Baburaj shared valuable insights and practical tips for nurturing creativity in writing poems and dramas. He stressed the significance of authenticity, emotional resonance, and narrative depth in crafting compelling literary works.

St. Mary's Syrian College Celebrates Remarkable 44th Annual Sports Day


St. Mary's Syrian College in Brahmavar witnessed the resounding success of its 44th Annual Sports Day on Friday, April 12, 2024. The event was graced by the presence of the college management, principal, staff, and enthusiastic students,making it a memorable occasion.


The inaugural function commenced at 9:30 a.m. with Mr. Mona Poojary, ASI Coastal Guard Police Station, Malpe, and an esteemed alumnus of the college, serving as the inaugurating guest. Reverend Fr.M.C. Mathai, Correspondent of SMS College, Brahmavar, along with Principal Dr. Manjunath Udupa K and Physical Education Director Venkatesh Bhat, added to the auspiciousness of the event.


The day unfolded with a spirited march past by all the classes, followed by a symbolic Victory Lamp run by sports achievers who represented the college at various levels, including international, national, and university. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation in numerous sports and activities, with a large number of students showcasing their athletic prowess.


The highlight of the valedictory function was the grand launch of the Inter-Class Championship Trophy of Sports Fest 2024. III BCom C clinched the coveted title of Class Overall Championship. Individual honors were awarded to Gawthami of III BA I batch as the Women's Champion and a shared Men's Championship between Shabareesha and Tejas.


Mr. Alvaris Dsilva, Secretary of the College Section at OSC Educational Society, Brahmavar, graced the closing ceremony as the Guest of Honor. The meticulous organization of the event was credited to Mr. Venkatesh Bhat, the Chief Organizer and Physical Education Director of the college.


The 44th Annual Sports Day at St. Mary's Syrian College stood as a testament to the spirit of sportsmanship and camaraderie among the college community, leaving an indelible mark on its illustrious sporting legacy.
