The tournament, held at Alva’s College of Physical Education, Moodbidri, witnessed intense competition among various colleges affiliated with Mangalore University. Among the standout players, Krishna was awarded the 'Best Defender' title, while Vignesh was recognized as the 'All-Rounder' for his outstanding contribution to the game.

The college management, faculty, and students have expressed their pride and joy over this achievement. The victory not only highlights the sporting excellence of SMS College but also reflects the dedication and rigorous training of the players.

Brahmavar, March 17, 2025 – The Humanities Association, in collaboration with the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of Saint Mary’s Syrian College, Brahmavar, successfully hosted the inter-class "Cooking Without Fire" competition titled Raw & Ready on the college campus. This event aimed to promote healthy eating habits and enhance students' creativity by encouraging fireless cooking techniques.

Students enthusiastically participated, showcasing their culinary skills by preparing nutritious and innovative dishes without using fire. The competition emphasized the importance of fresh ingredients, nutrition, and alternative cooking methods.

Participants prepared salads, sandwiches, desserts, and other creative dishes, which were judged based on creativity, presentation, nutritional value, and taste. Faculty members  appreciated the students' remarkable efforts and unique dish presentations. Adding a unique entrepreneurial aspect to the event, students also set up stalls to sell their prepared dishes, receiving an overwhelming response from their peers and faculty.

With a perfect blend of fun, learning, and health awareness, Raw & Ready proved to be an inspiring platform for students to experiment with fireless cooking, adopt healthy eating habits, and gain hands-on experience in selling their creations.

 Traditional Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm at Saint Mary's Syrian College, Brahmavar. The event was organized by the IQAC and the Students’ Welfare Council. Students and staff dressed in traditional attire, showcasing the rich cultural heritage of various regions.


As part of the celebrations, a poster-making competition was held the previous day, where students creatively represented different state cultures. These posters were displayed during the event, adding vibrancy to the occasion.

A traditional hut was set up by the students, and jaggery along with water was served as part of the cultural tradition. The event witnessed active participation from students, reflecting their deep appreciation for cultural heritage.

Mangalore University-level Intercollegiate music competition

 

The Fine Arts Club of Saint Mary's Syrian college brahmavar hosted a Mangalore University-level Intercollegiate music competition on March 13, 2025. The event began with an inaugural ceremony Presided over by Rev. Fr. M.C. Mathai. The competition was officially inaugurated by Mrs. Shoba Hariprasad, a renowned writer, teacher, and proud alumna, while Dr. Robert Rodrigues J, the Principal, attended as the Guest of Honour. Fine Arts conveners were also present to grace the occasion.


Participants from 11 colleges showcased their musical talents, performing classical, patriotic, and folk songs in both solo and group categories. The judging panel, consisting of Mr. Rajesh Shanboug and Mrs. Sumangali Sudhakar Perampalli, evaluated the impressive performances.

During the Valedictory function, Dr. Robert Rodrigues J, Principal presided over the event, and Mr. Rajesh Shanboug ,Singer, Anchor and organiser, delivered a inspirational speech. The competition concluded on a high note, with many participants achieving success and making the event truly memorable.

Brahmavar, March 14, 2025: The IQAC of St. Mary’s Syrian College, Brahmavar, organized a Consumer Awareness Program and Moot Court on the occasion of World Consumer Rights Day. The event aimed to educate students about consumer rights and legal redressal mechanisms.

 


Faculty members Mr. Vighnesh Padiyar and Mrs. Chitra Shetty from the Department of Commerce guided the session. The Moot Court provided students with practical insights into consumer dispute resolution through a simulated case. The event helped enhance awareness of consumer protection laws and legal procedures among students.

Brahmavar, March 14, 2025: A 30-day Personality and Skill Development Program commenced today at St. Mary’s Syrian College, Brahmavar, for final-year B.Com students. The event, organized by the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC),in association with Department of commerce,Placement Cell and HRD Cell of the college,was held at the college mini-auditorium. K. Guruprasad Bhat from Unnati Foundation served as the esteemed resource person.


The program aims to enhance students' soft skills, communication abilities, leadership qualities, and career readiness through interactive sessions, real-world examples, and practical exercises. K. Guruprasad Bhat engaged the participants with insightful discussions, helping them develop a professional mindset and improve their employability prospects.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Bhat emphasized the importance of self-confidence, adaptability, and continuous learning in today’s competitive job market. He encouraged students to cultivate critical thinking and problem-solving skills to excel in their careers.

March 5: The Rover and Ranger volunteers of Saint Mary's Syrian College, Brahmavar, actively participated in a service camp at Sree Hosa Marigudi Temple, Kapu on the occasion of Pratishtha Brahmakalashotsava. The camp was organised to assist with temple-related activities and contribute to community service.During the camp, the volunteers took part in various service activities, including cleaning the temple premises, assisting devotees, and managing crowd movement during the temple events. Their dedicated efforts ensured a smooth and organized experience for the devotees.

This initiative aimed to instill a sense of responsibility, teamwork, and service among the students while strengthening their connection with local traditions. Brahmavar, 18/02/2025: The Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of Saint Mary’s Syrian College (SMS), Brahmavar, in collaboration with Manipal Skill Development Centre (MSDC), successfully organized a Skill Development Session, Job Fair, and Certificate Course to enhance students’ employability and technical expertise.

The session was conducted by Prof. Kantharaj A.N.,  a former professor in the Mechanical Department at MIT Manipal and the Head of the Electrical Vehicle and Automotive Technology Skills Lab at MSDC, Manipal,Mrs. Rajalaxmi shared valuable insights on emerging career opportunities, industry-relevant skills, and the importance of continuous learning in the evolving job market.

The event was attended by  the Principal, faculty members, and students. The session covered key aspects of technical skill development, job readiness, offering students a roadmap to enhance their career prospects. The Job Fair provided students with an opportunity to explore employment avenues, while the Certificate Course aimed at equipping them with industry-recognized skills.The event concluded with a formal vote of thanks, acknowledging the contributions of the resource persons and organizers in guiding students towards a brighter future.

A CPR Training Programme was successfully organized at Saint Mary's Syrian College, Brahmavar, on February 28, 2025. The session was conducted in the college's Mini Auditorium for all staff members, equipping them with essential life-saving skills.

The resource person, Dr. Melita, Assistant Professor (Selection Grade), Department of Medical-Surgical Nursing, Manipal, led the training session, providing valuable insights into CPR techniques. The trained staff members will further educate students in the next phase of the programme.

The event was jointly organized by the college’s IQAC, NSS, and Red Cross units, ensuring a well-coordinated and impactful session.

The NCC B and C Certificate Examinations were successfully conducted at Saint Mary's Syrian College, Brahmavar, in February 2025.The B Certificate Examination took place on 15th & 16th February 2025, with around 450 NCC cadets from 21 KAR BN NCC, Udupi participating. Similarly, the C Certificate Examination was held on 22nd & 23rd February 2025, with around 400 cadets taking part.

The smooth conduct of the examinations was made possible with the efforts of NCC Officer Lt. Ashwin Shetty and Mr. Vignesh Padiyar, under the guidance of Principal Dr. Robert Rodrigues. The NCC cadets of the college actively assisted in organizing the event, ensuring its success.

Saint Mary's Syrian College, Brahmavara, successfully organized a campus placement drive on 1st March 2025 in collaboration with NIIT Mangalore and ICICI Bank. The drive witnessed the enthusiastic participation of 35 registered students, out of which 18 candidates were shortlisted for the next round.

The selection process comprised a Group Discussion (GD) followed by a Personal Interview, where students showcased their communication skills, critical thinking, and subject knowledge. The shortlisted candidates will now proceed to the next round scheduled on Monday.

The Principal extended a warm welcome to the HR team in the chamber and expressed gratitude for their efforts in creating career opportunities for students. The placement drive was meticulously coordinated by Placement Officer Mrs. Tweeny Maria Rodrigues, along with Mrs. Reshma from the Department of BCA and Mrs. Prathima from the Department of Commerce.

Student volunteers Nikitha, Navya, Archana, and Namratha from II B.Com, along with Rishi, Tushar, and Vignesh from II BCA, played an active role in organizing the event and ensuring its smooth execution.

The Dr. B. Vasantha Shetty Memorial Archaeological Exhibition was organised by IQAC, Department of History, Ancient History and Archaeology on February 18, 2025. The event was inaugurated by Principal Dr. Robert Rodrigues in the presence of the Chief Guest, Mr. Dinakar Shetty, a retired teacher and Executive Committee Member of the College Alumni Association.



The exhibition honored Dr. B. Vasantha Shetty, an eminent historian and archaeologist of Tulunadu and a former principal of SMS College, Brahmavar. The event witnessed active participation from students, teaching, and non-teaching staff.

The 42nd issue of the college magazine "Spandana" was released by the Principal, Dr. Robert Rodrigues on Friday, 21st February 2025 at the college Mini Auditorium . The principal underscored the crucial role of writing in academic and personal growth, encouraging students to develop a habit of creative and intellectual expression by actively contributing articles to the magazine. He highlighted how such platforms serve as a stepping stone for young minds to showcase their literary talents and critical thinking skills.

The event was hosted by Fathima from III BA as the Master of Ceremony. Mrs. Seema Lewis from the Department of English welcomed the gathering, while the vote of thanks was proposed by the Magazine Committee Convenor, Mrs. Vanita Shetty from the Department of Commerce. The program was presided over by Vice Principal Mr. Prasanna Shetty and IQAC Coordinator Lt. Brahmavar, February 15, 2025 – The Department of Economics at Saint Mary’s Syrian College, Brahmavar, successfully organized a thought-provoking event, “Budget 2025: A Student Perspective.” The program aimed to provide students with an opportunity to analyse and present their views on the Union Budget 2025.

Inauguration and Opening Ceremony

The event commenced with a symbolic inauguration, where a coin was dropped into a piggy bank, signifying the importance of savings and financial planning. This was followed by a warm welcome address delivered by Nikitha II Bcom A, setting the tone for an engaging and insightful session.Mr. Bharath Raj S Nejar, Head of the Department of Economics, delivered the introductory remarks, emphasizing the significance of budget literacy among students.

Student Budget Analysis Presentations


The highlight of the event was the Student Budget Analysis Presentations, where participants presented their in-depth evaluations of Budget 2025. Each analysis focused on different aspects such as taxation, education funding, employment policies, and economic growth. The presentations were carefully evaluated by an esteemed panel of judges:

Brahmavar, February 6, 2025 – The Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of Saint Mary’s Syrian College, Brahmavar, organised a Faculty Development Programme (FDP) for Non-Teaching Staff on the topic “Modern Office Practices for Effective Administration” on February 6, 2025.

The resource person for the session was Mr. Gopal Naik, Office Superintendent of Bhandarkars College, Kundapura. The session aimed at enhancing the administrative efficiency of non-teaching staff by equipping them with modern office management skills.

The event was held at the college's Mini Auditorium at 3:00 PM and saw active participation from the non-teaching staff. The program concluded with a vote of thanks, emphasising the importance of continuous learning for administrative excellence.The event was graced by Principal Dr. Robert Rodrigues and Office Superintendent    Mrs. Violetine Lewis, who emphasised the importance of professional development for non-teaching staff.
