MOU :German languageSt. Mary's Syrian College, in collaboration with Ajimorah Institutions, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on 6th July 2025. The event was presided over by Rev. Fr. M.C. Mathai. Also gracing the occasion were Dr.Robert Rodrigues J., Principal and Mr Alvaris D'Silva , Secretary, OSCE Society, College Section.

 The Resource persons present included Ms. Sandra Jacob, Regional Manager; Mr. Mohammad Shafi, Head of the Study Abroad Department; and Mr. Susheel Kumar K.R., Marketing Manager, Byndoor. 

The guests shared valuable insights on learning the German language and highlighted its significance and advantages for future academic and career opportunities.

Aagaman

 `Aagaman’ – Orientation Programme for First Year B.Com, B.A & B.C.A Students*

S.M.S College, Brahmavar, organized orientation programme, ‘Aagaman’, on July 28, 2025, to welcome the first-year students of B.Com, B.A, and B.C.A courses. The programme aimed to guide the freshers into their new academic journey and introduce them to the values and culture of the institution.

The highlight of the event was a special talk by Prof. Sakharama Somayaji, Former Professor at NTPC School of Business, Delhi, and President of the Alumni Association of S.M.S College. He delivered an insightful session on the topic "Values in Life", underscoring the significance of discipline, compassion, and integrity in shaping a meaningful life and successful career.

The Principal, Dr. Robert Rodriguez, addressed the gathering with a motivational message that emphasized academic excellence, ethical responsibility, and personal growth. His address inspired students to strive for both knowledge and character.




Mrs. Savitha S. Nayak, Executive Member of the Alumni Association, graced the occasion with her presence and motivated the students with her encouraging words, sharing her own journey and the role the college played in her professional development.The event began with a warm welcome by Vice Principal, Mr. Prasanna Shetty.The programme concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks by Mrs. Vanitha Shetty, Lecturer in Commerce, who appreciated the contributions of all dignitaries, faculty members, and students for making the event a grand success.

In connection with the nationwide initiative "Nasha Mukth Bharat Abhiyan", an Oath-Taking Programme was held today at 11:30 AM in front of the Principal’s Chamber. The event aimed to create awareness among students and staff about the harmful effects of drug abuse and to encourage a commitment to a drug-free lifestyle.

The programme witnessed the active participation of teaching and non-teaching staff, along with enthusiastic involvement from students across various streams. During the event, all present solemnly took the anti-drug pledge, reaffirming their resolve to stay away from intoxicating substances and to spread awareness in the society.

The initiative reflects the college’s continued commitment to social responsibility and youth empowerment through value-based education.

Competitive Exam Awareness Programme Held at SMS College, Brahmavara

Brahmavara: SMS College, Brahmavara, a prestigious institution managed by the OSC Educational Society and accredited with an 'A' grade by NAAC, organized a Competitive Exam Awareness Programme on June 24th. The event aimed to enlighten students about various Central and State Government job opportunities and the preparation strategies required for competitive examinations.

The programme was organized in association with Naren Academy, Brahmavara, and Rotary Royals, Brahmavara, and served as a platform to guide students on the latest employment trends and examination patterns in the public sector.

Eminent dignitaries graced the event, including Mr. Robert Rodriguez, Principal of SMS College; Mr. Chandrakanth from Naren Academy; Mr. Raghavendra Samaga, Assistant Governor, Zone 3; Mr. Trivikram Adiga, Secretary, Rotary Royals Brahmavara; and Mr. Sakaram Somayaji, President of the Old Students' Association. Brahmavar, June 1: The Department of Physical Education, Mangalore University, in association with St. Mary’s Syrian College, Brahmavar, successfully organized the Mangalore University Inter-Collegiate Lawn Tennis Tournament 2024–25 for men and women on May 31, 2025, at the Ajjarkadu Indoor Stadium, Udupi.

The valedictory function of the prestigious tournament was presided over by Dr. Robert Rodrigues J., Principal of SMS College, Brahmavar.  Esteemed Guests of Honor included Mr. Chandrashekhar Hegde, Retired Physical Education Director of SMS College, Brahmavar, Mr. Rama Bhat, Member of the SMS Tennis Club, and Dr. Ramachandra Patkar, Observer from Mangalore University,Mr. Venkatesh Bhat, Physical Education Director.

The Department of Commerce, under the Commerce Association, successfully organized Commerce Fest on 17th March 2025 and Commerce Day on 19th March 2025. The events were held to encourage academic excellence, practical exposure, and student engagement in the field of commerce.

The Commerce Fest featured a wide range of competitions and interactive sessions aimed at enhancing students' skills and creativity. Activities such as Business Quiz, Collage Competition, model making , ice breaker and glimpses witnessed enthusiastic participation from students across all B.com classes .

Commerce Day, celebrated on 19th March, was filled with games and entertainment programs that brought energy and joy to the campus. Students participated enthusiastically in various recreational activities, making the day both memorable and fun-filled.

The two-day celebration not only provided a platform for students to showcase their talents but also fostered teamwork, leadership, and innovation.

In a thrilling finale, Alva’s College, Moodbidri emerged as the champions, displaying outstanding performance and teamwork. BB Hegde College secured the runners-up position after a closely contested match.

The host institution, SMS College, Brahmavar, put up a commendable performance to finish in third place, followed by Bhandarkars’ College, Kundapura, securing the fourth position.

The Programme was  witnessed by the resource person Mrs. Anitha Fernandes   who provided valuable information to the students on various aspects of Aviation and Hospitality .

The team exhibited commendable skill, coordination, and team spirit throughout the tournament. Adding to the celebration, Ms. Vaishnavi, a standout player from the team, was honored with the title of "Best All-Rounder – Udupi Zone," recognizing her stellar performance and all-round contribution on the court.

The Management, Principal, teaching and non-teaching staff, alumni, PTA, and students extended hearty congratulations to the team for their outstanding achievement. The college continues to encourage holistic development and excellence in both academics and co-curricular activities.

On 7th March 2025, the Rovers and Rangers of St. Mary's Syrian College, Brahmavar, embarked on an exciting trekking and nature study camp to Kyatanmakki Hills, Samse, and Horanadu. The camp was an enriching experience that allowed students to immerse themselves in the beauty of nature, engage in adventure, and enhance their understanding of the environment.


The students had the opportunity to explore the picturesque landscapes of Kyatanmakki Hills, with its lush greenery, diverse wildlife, and scenic views. During the trek, the participants learned about the importance of preserving nature and its various ecosystems. The nature study component of the camp focused on educating the students about environmental conservation, biodiversity, and the crucial role of hills and forests in maintaining ecological balance.


 The journey to Samse and Horanadu further enriched their experience, as they interacted with the local community and explored the cultural significance of the regions.


Overall, the camp proved to be a memorable and educational experience, helping the students foster a deeper connection with nature while cultivating a sense of adventure and environmental awareness.

Brahmavar, April 4, 2025 – The Mangalore University Inter-Collegiate Women’s Throwball Tournament (Udupi Zone) was successfully held at Pompei College, Aikala, on April 3 and 4, 2025. The tournament witnessed intense competition among teams from various colleges under Mangalore University.


Vaishnavi G. Suvarna of SMS College, Brahmavar, was awarded the prestigious Best All-Rounder title for her exceptional performance, showcasing outstanding skills in both attack and defense throughout the tournament.

The women's team of SMS College, Brahmavar, delivered a commendable performance and secured fourth place in the tournament, demonstrating teamwork and resilience against strong opponents.

Brahmavar, April 4, 2025 – SMS College, in association with the IQAC and the Anti-Ragging Cell, organized an Anti-Ragging & Cyber Crime Awareness Programme at the college's Mini-Auditorium. The event aimed to raise awareness among students about the legal consequences of ragging and the increasing threats of cybercrime.

The programme was presided over by Dr. Robert Rodrigues, Principal of SMS College, who emphasized the institution’s commitment to maintaining a ragging-free and cyber-safe campus. He urged students to be responsible citizens and report any instances of misconduct.

Steevan Victor Lewis, Advocate & Notary, and Registrar of Christian Marriages, was the guest speaker. He provided valuable insights into the legal implications of ragging and cybercrime, highlighting the importance of ethical behavior and digital security.

Mrs. Chithra Shetty, Convenor of the Anti-Ragging Cell, was also present and spoke on the strict measures taken by the college to prevent ragging.
