Mr. Gagan earned a Bronze medal in the Triple Jump event.

Mr. Thanush secured a Bronze medal in the Hammer Throw.

In the Best Physique Competition, Mr. Sumanth clinched the Gold medal in the 60kg category, while Mr. Tilak achieved a Bronze medal in the 65kg category.

On November 29, 2024, the Magazine Committee of SMS College, Brahmavara, proudly launched its monthly wall  magazine, Parikrama. The event was graced by the Principal Dr. Robert Rodrigues, who officially unveiled the magazine.

The Vice Principal, Mr. Prasanna Shetty, and Magazine Committee Convenor, were also present on the event, along with other distinguished committee members.

SMS College, Brahmavar, hosted a significant event on November 21, 2024, by exchanging a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with IBM to introduce specialized add-on courses aimed at bridging the gap between academic learning and industry needs.

The event began with a prayer by Nagashree of III BCA, followed by a warm welcome by Mrs. Mallika Upadhyaya, Assistant Professor, Department of Commerce. The ceremonial lighting of the lamp was performed by Rev. Fr. MC Mathai, President of the Programme, alongside the Chief Guest, Mr. Jagadisha Bhat, Country Manager for Technology Expert Labs at IBM India Private Limited, and other dignitaries.

Mrs. Tweeny Maria Rodrigues, Convenor of Add-On Courses and Head of the Department of Commerce, elaborated on the objectives of the MoU, emphasizing its significance. Ms. Renuka, Assistant Professor from the M.Com Department, introduced the Chief Guest.

In his address, Mr. Jagadisha Bhat praised the college for its forward-thinking initiative, remarking, "These courses are the need of the hour and will prepare students to excel in their professional journeys."

The Principal, Dr. Robert Rodrigues, highlighted the institution's commitment to holistic education, while Rev. Fr. MC Mathai envisioned the transformative impact this partnership would have on students and faculty.

ಸೈಂಟ್ ಮೇರಿಸ್ ಸಿರಿಯನ್ ಕಾಲೇಜು, ಬ್ರಹ್ಮಾವರ ಇಲ್ಲಿನ ಕೊಂಕಣಿ ಅಸೋಸಿಯೇಶನ್ ವತಿಯಿಂದ ಕಾಲೇಜಿನ ಪ್ರಥಮ, ದ್ವಿತೀಯ ಹಾಗೂ ತೃತೀಯ ವರ್ಷದ ಎಲ್ಲಾ ಕೋರ್ಸ್ ನ ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿಗಳಿಗೆ ಗಾಳಿಪಟ ರಚನೆ ಹಾಗೂ ಹಾರಿಸುವ ಸ್ಪರ್ಧೆಯನ್ನು 26/11/2024 ರಂದು ಕಾಲೇಜಿನ ಮಿನಿ ಸಭಾಂಗಣದಲ್ಲಿ ಆಯೋಜಿಸಲಾಯಿತು. 

ಸ್ಪರ್ಧೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಕಾಲೇಜಿನ ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿಗಳ ಹತ್ತು ತಂಡಗಳು ಭಾಗವಹಿಸಿದ್ದವು. ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿಗಳ ಭಾಗವಹಿಸುವಿಕೆ ಹಾಗೂ ಕ್ರಿಯಾ ಸಾಮರ್ಥ್ಯ ಹೊರಸೂಸುವುದು ಈ ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮದ ಮುಖ್ಯ ಉದ್ದೇಶವಾಗಿತ್ತು. ಅಸೋಸಿಯೇಷನ್ ನ ಸಂಯೋಜಕರಾದ ಶ್ರೀ ಜೂಡ್ ಆಲ್ಪ್ರೆಡ್ ಫುರ್ಟಾಡೊ ಹಾಗೂ ಶ್ರೀಮತಿ ಜ್ಯೋತಿ ಯವರು ಉಪಸ್ಥಿತರಿದ್ದರು.

ಸಾಹಿತ್ಯ ಸಂಘದ ಸಲಹೆಗಾರರಾದ ಡಾಕ್ಟರ್ ಮಂಜುನಾಥ ಉಡುಪ ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮದ ಪ್ರಸ್ತಾವನೆ ಯೊಂದಿಗೆ ಸ್ವಾಗತಿಸಿದರು. ಸಂಪನ್ಮೂಲ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿಗಳಾಗದ ಉಪೇಂದ್ರ ಸೋಮ ಯಾಜಿ, ಸುರೇಶ ತುಂಗ, ಗುಂಡ್ಮಿ ರಾಮಚಂದ್ರ ಐತಾಳ್ ಕನ್ನಡ ನಾಡು ನುಡಿ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಉಪನ್ಯಾಸ ನೀಡಿದರು.

ಕನ್ನಡ ನಮ್ಮ ತಾಯಿ, ನಮ್ಮ ತಾಯಿಗೆ ಬೆಲೆ ಕೊಡಿ, ಸ್ಥಾನ ಕೊಡಿ ಎಂದು ಕೇಳುವ ಮನಸ್ಥಿತಿಗೆ ನಾವು ಬರಬಾರದು, ಕರ್ನಾಟಕದಲ್ಲಿ ಕನ್ನಡವೇ ಶ್ರೇಷ್ಠ ಅದು ನಮ್ಮ ಹೃದಯದ ಭಾಷೆಯಾಗಬೇಕು ಎಂದು ನುಡಿದರು. ಕುಮಾರಿ ಸಿಂಚನ ಪ್ರಾರ್ಥಿಸಿ, ಸಾಹಿತ್ಯ ಸಂಘದ ಕಾರ್ಯದರ್ಶಿ ಕುಮಾರಿ ಲಕ್ಷ್ಮಿ ವಂದಿಸಿದರು. ಕು. ಐಶ್ವರ್ಯ ಲಕ್ಷ್ಮಿ ನಿರೂಪಿಸಿದರು.

On 15th November 2024, Saint Mary's Syrian College, Brahmavara, hosted an insightful Career Counselling  program in collaboration with The First Phoenix . The event featured resource persons Mr.Alan Arjun D'Souza, Personality Develop Coach and Career Counsellor  and Mr. Samson Barnes, Founder and Owner of The First Phoenix  who provided valuable guidance to the students on various aspects of career development and skills and Personality.  The session was well-received, offering students practical tips and strategies for success in their academic and professional journeys. The event highlighted the understanding of skills and qualifications needed for different careers including foreign studies, foreign languages and jobs abroad.

Dr. Robert Rodrigues address the gathering and Rev. Fr. Lawrence D' Souza provided valuable guidance to students. Asha T.K HRD convenor and co- Convenor  Mr. Keerthi Shetttigar, Seema Lewis and Prakash Nayak were present in the Programme.

ಪ್ರಾಸ್ತಾವಿಕ ಭಾಷಣದಲ್ಲಿ ಡಾ. ರಾಬರ್ಟ್ ರೋಡ್ರಿಗಸ್, ಸೇಂಟ್ ಮೇರೀಸ್ ಸಿರಿಯನ್ ಕಾಲೇಜಿನ ಪ್ರಾಂಶುಪಾಲರು, ಶಿಬಿರದ ಮಹತ್ವವನ್ನು ಉಲ್ಲೇಖಿಸಿದರು. ನಂತರ, ಬಿರ್ತೀ ರಾಜೇಶ್ ಶೆಟ್ಟಿ ಅವರು ಶಿಬಿರವನ್ನು ಅಧಿಕೃತವಾಗಿ ಉದ್ಘಾಟಿಸಿದರು.

ಸಮುದಾಯ ವೈದ್ಯಕೀಯ ವಿಭಾಗ, ಕೆ ಎಂ ಸಿ ಮಣಿಪಾಲದ ಮುಖ್ಯಸ್ಥರಾದ ಡಾ ಅಶ್ವಿನಿ ಕುಮಾರ್ ಹಾಗೂ ಪ್ರಾಧ್ಯಾಪಕರಾದ ಡಾ ರಂಜಿತಾ ಶೆಟ್ಟಿಯವರ ನೇತೃತ್ವದಲ್ಲಿ ಡಾ ಅಖಿಲಾ ಅವರು ಮಹಿಳೆಯರಲ್ಲಿನ ಕ್ಯಾನ್ಸರ್ ಮತ್ತು ಅದರ ತಡೆಗಟ್ಟುವಿಕೆಯ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಮಾಹಿತಿ ನೀಡಿದರು ಮತ್ತು ಅವರ ತಂಡದಿಂದ ಕ್ಯಾನ್ಸರ್ ತಪಾಸಣೆಯನ್ನು ನಡೆಸಲಾಯಿತು.90 ಮಹಿಳೆಯರು ಈ ತಪಾಸಣಾ ಶಿಬಿರದಲ್ಲಿ ಪಾಲ್ಗೊಂಡು ಶಿಬಿರದ ಸದುಪಯೋಗವನ್ನು ಪಡೆದರು.

The Rangers and Rovers volunteers of Saint Mary's Syrian College, Brahmavar, organized a vibrant Community Connect Program for the Anganwadi kids at Board School, Brahmavar, on 16/11/2024.

The program aimed to foster engagement and provide an enriching experience for the children, focusing on fun, learning, and community bonding. Activities included storytelling sessions, interactive games and group singing, creating an atmosphere of joy and enthusiasm.

The volunteers ensured a well-organized event by preparing creative and age-appropriate activities that captured the children’s attention and encouraged their participation. They also distributed refreshments and small gifts, adding to the excitement.

The event was graced by Anganwadi teachers  who appreciated the initiative. They highlighted the importance of such programs in nurturing young minds and fostering a sense of community responsibility among youth.

This program not only brought smiles to the faces of Anganwadi children but also showcased the commitment and dedication of the Rangers and Rovers volunteers to social service.

 Awareness Program on Prevention of Dengue at Indira Nagar, Brahmavar

An Awareness Program on Prevention of Dengue was conducted on 16  November, 2024 at Indira Nagar, Brahmavar, under the initiative of the Rovers and Rangers Unit of Saint Mary's Syrian College, Brahmavar. The program aimed to educate the community on the importance of preventing dengue and adopting proactive measures to reduce the spread of the disease.

The program focused on creating awareness about the causes, symptoms, and preventive measures for dengue. Volunteers from the Rovers and Rangers team highlighted the significance of maintaining clean surroundings, eliminating stagnant water to prevent mosquito breeding, and using protective measures such as mosquito repellents and nets.

The awareness drive received positive feedback from the residents of Indira Nagar, fostering a collaborative spirit to combat dengue and promote a healthier environment.

SMS College, Brahmavar, organised a one-day state-level workshop on State Education Policy: History - New Syllabus on November 6, 2024. The workshop was conducted by the college's IQAC in collaboration with the Department of History, Ancient History & Archaeology, and the Mangalore University History Teachers Association (Manusha).

Highlights of the Event:

The workshop was presided over by Rev. Fr. M.C. Mathai, with the keynote address delivered by Dr. Deepika Shetty, Professor at Manipal School of Architecture and Planning, MAHE. Guests of Honour included Mr. Santhosh Shetty and Mr. Sachin Poojary. The valedictory session was chaired by Dr. Robert Rodrigues, Principal of SMS College.

The sessions were enriched by resource persons Dr. Jayaram Shettigar (Milagres College, Kallianpur) and Prof. K. Gopal (Bhandarkar's College, Kundapura), who provided insightful lectures.

IQAC Coordinator Lt. Extension Activity by the Department of English for B.A. English Optional Students

An extension activity was organised by the Department of English for B.A. English Optional students on the 23rd and 24th of October 2024. As part of the program, the students visited SMS English Medium School (State Syllabus), accompanied by English language teachers from SMS Degree College.

During the visit, the students conducted a variety of interactive sessions with the school children. These sessions included teaching through rhymes, drawing, singing, indoor games, and other fun-filled activities, which engaged the students and enhanced their learning experience.

Overall, the event provided an opportunity for the B.A. students to gain both professional and personal growth. The hands-on experience they gained will contribute significantly to their development as future educators or in other related fields.

ದಿನಾಂಕ 16/10/2024 ರಂದು ಬ್ರಹ್ಮಾವರದ ಎಸ್.ಎಂ.ಎಸ್ ಕಾಲೇಜಿನ ಗಣಕ ಶಾಸ್ತ್ರ(BCA) ವಿಭಾಗದ ವತಿಯಿಂದ "Manipal Skill Development Centre" ನಲ್ಲಿ ಅಧ್ಯಯನ ಪ್ರವಾಸವನ್ನು (Study Visit) ಹಮ್ಮಿಕೊಳ್ಳಲಾಗಿತ್ತು. ಈ ಪ್ರವಾಸದಲ್ಲಿ ಸುಮಾರು ನೂರು ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿಗಳು ಹಾಗೂ ಗಣಕ ಶಾಸ್ತ್ರ ವಿಭಾಗದ ಉಪನ್ಯಾಸಕರು ಭಾಗವಹಿಸಿದ್ದರು. ಈ ಅಧ್ಯಯನ ಪ್ರವಾಸದ ಉದ್ದೇಶ, ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿಗಳಿಗೆ ತಾಂತ್ರಿಕ ಕಲಿಕೆ ಹಾಗೂ ನವೀಕೃತ ತಂತ್ರಜ್ಞಾನಗಳ ಪರಿಚಯ ನೀಡುವುದು ಮತ್ತು ಕೈಗಾರಿಕಾ ಪ್ರಕ್ರಿಯೆಗಳ practically ಅನುಭವವನ್ನು ನೀಡುವುದು ಆಗಿತ್ತು.  Manipal Skill Development Centre ನಲ್ಲಿ ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿಗಳು ವಿವಿಧ ತರಬೇತಿ ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮಗಳನ್ನು ಮತ್ತು ಸೌಲಭ್ಯಗಳನ್ನು ವೀಕ್ಷಿಸಿ, ತಮ್ಮ ಶೈಕ್ಷಣಿಕ ಮತ್ತು ವೃತ್ತಿಪರ ಜ್ಞಾನವನ್ನು  ಪಡೆದು ಕೊಂಡರು .

The Commerce Association hosted a successful event with the "Advaya" New product launch competition. The initiative, "From Classroom to Marketplace," gave B.Com students the chance to present their product ideas creatively. Assistant Professors Vadiraj Prabhu and Renuka judged the competition, while Tejaswini of III B.Com handled the welcome and Vishwajith of III B.Com B delivered the vote of thanks. Principal Dr. Robert Rodrigues praised the students' efforts, emphasizing the importance of such events in fostering creativity and growth. Vice Principal Mr. Prasanna Shetty, HOD Tweeny Maria Rodrigues, coordinator Mrs. Mallika Upadhyaya, and the commerce faculty were highly supportive, with participation from other departments as well.

The Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), in collaboration with the cell for coaching competitive exams and HRD Cell, organised a special talk titled “A Path Towards Success: Cracking RRB Competitive Exams”. The event, aimed at coaching students for competitive exams, featured Mr. Chandrakanth, Co-founder of Naren Academy, and Mr. Vivek Kamath, Co-founder of Dosha Learning Centre, as the resource persons.

The session commenced with a warm welcome from the HOD of Economics, Mr. Bharath Raj S Nejar. Both the resource persons shared valuable insights on effective strategies for preparing and excelling in the RRB (Railway Recruitment Board) competitive exams. Their discussions covered essential topics such as time management, exam patterns, and study techniques, helping students understand the path towards success in these exams.

The Principal Dr.Robert Rodrigues addressed the gathering, emphasizing the importance of competitive exams in shaping students' careers and how such opportunities prepare them for government job prospects.

The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by the HOD of Commerce Mrs Tweeny Maria Rodrigues. The presence of the staff and the Convener of HRD added further significance to the occasion, ensuring a well-organized and insightful session for students aiming for competitive exams.

The special talk was an enriching experience for the students, providing them with practical guidance and motivation to excel in competitive exams like RRB.

Counselling Centre Inaugurated at Saint Mary's Syrian College, Brahmavar

 The Counselling Centre at Saint Mary's Syrian College, Brahmavar, was inaugurated on 8th October 2024 in collaboration with A.V. Baliga Memorial Hospital, Udupi.

Dr. P.V. Bhandary, Medical Director and Psychiatrist at A.V. Baliga Memorial Hospital, Udupi, was the chief guest and inaugurator. During his speech, Dr. Bhandary emphasized the rising issue of suicide among youths and highlighted the crucial role that counselling centres can play in addressing mental health challenges. He stressed the importance of providing emotional support and guidance to students through such centres to help prevent crises and promote mental well-being.

On October 2, 2024, staff and students of Saint Mary's Syrian College Brahamavar took the "Swachh and Green India" pledge. This reaffirmed commitment to keeping our surroundings clean and protecting nature, in honor of the legacy of the Father of the Nation.

Cleanliness Drive in Murudeshwar

 The National Service Scheme (NSS) unit of Saint Mary’s Syrian College, Brahmavar, celebrated Gandhi Jayanti with a focus on community service and cleanliness. The event featured a "Swachh Bharat" cleanliness drive at Murudeshwar, a popular tourist location in Karnataka.

NSS volunteers, along with faculty members, organized a large-scale cleanliness campaign as part of their commitment to promoting Mahatma Gandhi's vision of a clean and green India. The team cleaned public spaces, including Murudeshwar Railway Station and surrounding areas, gathering and properly disposing of litter. This initiative aimed to raise awareness about cleanliness and environmental preservation.

ಸ್ವಚ್ಚ ಭಾರತ್ ಅಭಿಯಾನಕ್ಕೆ ಅಡಿಯಲ್ಲಿ  ಎಸ್‌ಎಮ್‌ಎಸ್‌ ಕಾಲೇಜು ಬ್ರಹ್ಮಾವರವು   ಸ್ವಚ್ಛತಾ  ಆಂದೋಲನವನ್ನು   ಸೆಪ್ಟೆಂಬರ್ 30, 2024 ರಂದು  ಆಯೊಜಿಸಿತು .  ಈ ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮವನ್ನು ಕಾಲೇಜಿನ   IQAC,  ರಾಷ್ಟ್ರೀಯ ಕೆಡೆಟ್ ಕಾರ್ಪ್ಸ್ (NCC),  ರಾಷ್ಟ್ರೀಯ ಸೇವಾ ಯೋಜನೆ (NSS),ರೋಟರಿ ಕ್ಲಬ್ ಬ್ರಹ್ಮಾವರ, ಲಯನ್ಸ್ ಮತ್ತು ಲಿಯೋ ಕ್ಲಬ್ ಬ್ರಹ್ಮಾವರ-ಬಾರಕೂರು, ಹಾಗೂ ಚಾಂತಾರ ಗ್ರಾಮ ಪಂಚಾಯತ್‌ ಸಹಯೋಗದಲ್ಲಿ ನಡೆಸಲಾಯಿತು
