 Inauguration of Fashion Designing Course and MoU Signing

The Fashion Designing Course was formally inaugurated at S.M.S College, Brahmavar on 28th August 2025. The programme was presided over by Rev. F. M. C. Mathai, Correspondent of the College.

The programme began with a prayer by Ms. Ranjani from the Department of English, which created a serene and graceful atmosphere. This was followed by a welcome and introductory address by Dr. Vidyalatha, Co-ordinator of the Fashion Designing Course, who highlighted the objectives of introducing this new programme and its relevance in today’s creative industry.

The event was graced by Dr. Robert Rodriguez, Principal of the College, who, in his address, emphasized the importance of skill-based education.

 Mr. Vinod Kumar, Director of Mind Creative School, Udupi, spoke on the growing scope of fashion designing as a career and motivated students to nurture creativity. Ms. Ashwini Prabhu, Teaching Faculty for Fashion Designing, presented an overview of the course structure.

The Presidential Address was delivered by Rev. F. M. C. Mathai, who appreciated the initiative of launching the Fashion Designing Course at the college and assured full support for its success.

On this occasion, an MoU was signed between S.M.S College, Brahmavar, and Mind Creative School, Udupi, to strengthen academic collaboration. The agreement includes provisions for student exchange programmes, collaborative workshops, guest lectures, industrial visits, internships, and joint research activities, thereby enhancing creative and professional opportunities for students.

The Vote of Thanks was proposed by Lt. Ashwin Shetty, IQAC Co-ordinator, who expressed gratitude to the dignitaries, faculty members, students, and all contributors to the event.

The programme was compered by Ms. Divyajothi, II B.Com ‘B’. The event concluded on a positive note, marking not only the beginning of the Fashion Designing Course but also the start of a promising academic collaboration.

Rovers Rangers Rendered Service at Free Eye Check-up Camp

A Free Eye Check-up Camp was organized by the Brahmavara Foundation, Lions & Leo Club (Brahmavara–Barkur), and Brahmavara Abhivruddhi Samiti in association with Netrajyothi Charitable Trust, Udupi, and Prasad Netralaya Super Speciality Eye Hospital, Udupi on 24th August 2025 at SMS Community Center, Brahmavara.


The camp aimed to provide free eye check-ups to the public and witnessed the active participation of the Rovers and Rangers of St. Mary’s Syrian College, Brahmavar. They rendered valuable service by assisting in registration, guiding patients, and ensuring smooth coordination throughout the program. Their enthusiastic involvement contributed greatly to the success of the camp, reflecting their commitment to community service and social responsibility.

Brahmavar, August 24: The Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) and Students’ Welfare Council (SWC) of SMS College, Brahmavar jointly organized Freshers’ Day – ARAMBHAM 2025 in the college main auditorium. The event warmly welcomed all the first-year students of BA, B.Com, and BCA courses.

Old student Mr. Abhijith Padeshwar graced the occasion as the Guest of Honour. The programme was presided over by Principal Dr. Robert Rodriguez J. IQAC Coordinator Mr. Ashwin Shetty, SWC Coordinators Mr. Prashanth Shetty and Ms. Supreetha,vice-principal mr.Prasanna shetty along with teaching and non-teaching staff members, were present on the occasion.


The celebration featured a variety of fun games, cultural performances, and dance, creating an enthusiastic and memorable start for the newcomers.

ಸಂಪನ್ಮೂಲ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿಗಳಾದ ಡಾ. ಪ್ರಕಾಶ್ ತೋಳರ್ ಹಾಗೂ ಶ್ರೀ ವಿಠಲ ಎಂ ಇವರು ಮಾದಕ ವ್ಯಸನದಿಂದ ಆಗುವ ದುಷ್ಪರಿಣಾಮಗಳು, ಅದರ ತಡೆಗಟ್ಟುವಿಕೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಯುವ ಸಮುದಾಯದ ಪಾತ್ರ ಮತ್ತು ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿಗಳೊಂದಿಗೆ ನೇರ ಸಂವಹನವನ್ನು ನಡೆಸುವುದರ ಮೂಲಕ ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ವ್ಯಸನದ ಅರಿವನ್ನು ಜಾಗೃತಿಗೊಳಿ ಸುವುದರೊಂದಿಗೆ ನಶಾ ಮುಕ್ತ ಭಾರತದ ಕನಸನ್ನು ನನಸುಗೊಳಿಸುವಲ್ಲಿ ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿಗಳ ಪಾತ್ರವನ್ನು ತಿಳಿಹೇಳಿದರು.

ಹಾಗೆಯೇ ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿ ಸಂಘದ ಅಧ್ಯಕ್ಷನಾದ ವಿಫ್ನೇಶ್ ಇವರು ನಶಾ ಮುಕ್ತ ಭಾರತದ ಕುರಿತ
ಪ್ರಮಾಣವಚನವನ್ನು ಬೋಧಿಸಿದರು. 
ಈ ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮದ ನಿರೂಪಣೆಯನ್ನು ಅನುಪಮ ಮತ್ತು ರೆಹನಾ ಸ್ವಾಗತವನ್ನು ಉಪ ಪ್ರಾಂಶುಪಾಲರಾದ ಶ್ರೀ ಪ್ರಸನ್ನ ಶೆಟ್ಟಿ , ಧನ್ಯವಾದವನ್ನು ಕನ್ನಡ ಉಪನ್ಯಾಸಕರಾದ ಡಾ||ವಿದ್ಯಾಲತಾ ಇವರು ನೆರವೇರಿಸಿ ಕೊಟ್ಟರು.

 Orientation Programme on CA/CS courses

An Orientation Programme on CA/CS courses was organized at S.M.S College, Brahmavar to create awareness among students about the scope and opportunities in the professional fields of Chartered Accountancy and Company Secretaryship.

The Resource Person for the programme was CS Santhosh Prabhu, Founder of V-Reach Academy, Udupi, who delivered an insightful session on the importance of professional courses, career prospects, and the dedication required to succeed in these fields. His address motivated the students to take up the challenges of professional education with confidence.

The programme was graced by the presence of Dr. Robert Rodriguez, Principal of the College, Mr. Nagesh, Coordinator of V-Reach Academy, Udupi, and Mr. Shankar B, Administrative Officer, Company Secretary, Mangalore Chapter. Their encouragement and support added great value to the session.

The event began with a warm welcome by Lt. Ashwin Shetty, followed by the orientation talk. At the conclusion, Mr. Prashanth Devadiga proposed the Vote of Thanks, expressing gratitude to the resource person, dignitaries, and participants.

Brahmavar: The athletes of SMS College, Brahmavar brought laurels to the institution by excelling at the Udupi District Junior Athletic Meet 2025 with remarkable performances in track events.

Charan (II B.A) won the Silver Medal in 5000 meters and the Bronze Medal in 1500 meters, showcasing his endurance and consistency on the track.

Koushik (I B.Com B) displayed outstanding athletic skills by securing the Gold Medal in 5000 meters and the Bronze Medal in 800 meters, making a strong mark in middle and long-distance running events.

The management, Principal ,Physical Education Director , faculty, alumni, PTA, and students have congratulated the winners for their dedication and sportsmanship.

With these achievements, SMS College has once again reaffirmed its reputation as a center of sporting excellence in Udupi District.

Brahmavar: In the Mangalore University Sports for the academic year 2024-25, SMS College, Brahmavar has once again secured First Place at the Udupi District level for the second consecutive year.

Students of the college have excelled in various sporting events, proving their talent and determination. Under the guidance of Physical Education Director Mr. Venkatesh Bhat, the students have showcased remarkable performances at both University and State-level competitions.

Principal Dr. Robert Rodrigues J., along with the faculty members and management, congratulated the sports team on this outstanding achievement and encouraged them to continue their winning spirit in the future as well.

By retaining the First Place for two consecutive years, SMS College has established itself as a leading institution in the field of sports in Udupi District.

79th Independence Day Celebrated at SMS College, Brahmavar

Brahmavara, August 15: Independence Day was celebrated with pride and enthusiasm at St. Mary’s Syrian College, Brahmavara. The programme began at 9:30 AM with the flag hoisting by Principal Dr. Robert Rodrigues J., accompanied by NCC Officer Lt. Ashwin Shetty.

The event was attended by teaching and non-teaching staff, NCC and NSS volunteers, students, and alumni. Principal Dr. Robert Rodrigues J. addressed the gathering and spoke about the significance of freedom and the responsibilities that come with it.

The celebration concluded with the distribution of sweets to all present.

 Workshop on Personal Grooming and Interview Skills Held for Final Year B.Com Students

August 9 — The IQAC, Department of Commerce, Placement and HRD Cell, in association with JCI, organized a one-day workshop on Personal Grooming and Interview Skills for the final year B.Com students today.

The program began with a warm welcome by Mrs. Asha T.K., HRD Convenor, followed by an address from Principal Robert Rodrigues, who emphasized the importance of professional etiquette and communication skills in career advancement.

The session was led by Ms. Melba Deena Lewis, Vice President of JCI, who served as the resource person. She provided valuable insights into effective self-presentation, confidence-building, and strategies to excel in interviews.

Ms. Evita D’Souza, President of JCI Kalliyanpura, and Ms. Ennica D’Souza, Member of JCI Kalliyanpura, were also present,  extending their support to the smooth conduct of the program.

The Commerce Department staff was also present, lending their support to the event.


The workshop was designed to equip students with practical skills to enhance their employability and prepare them for professional opportunities. Participants expressed appreciation for the interactive and informative nature of the session.

 `Aagaman’ – Orientation Programme for First Year B.Com, B.A & B.C.A Students*

S.M.S College, Brahmavar, organized orientation programme, ‘Aagaman’, on July 28, 2025, to welcome the first-year students of B.Com, B.A, and B.C.A courses. The programme aimed to guide the freshers into their new academic journey and introduce them to the values and culture of the institution.

The highlight of the event was a special talk by Prof. Sakharama Somayaji, Former Professor at NTPC School of Business, Delhi, and President of the Alumni Association of S.M.S College. He delivered an insightful session on the topic "Values in Life", underscoring the significance of discipline, compassion, and integrity in shaping a meaningful life and successful career.

The Principal, Dr. Robert Rodriguez, addressed the gathering with a motivational message that emphasized academic excellence, ethical responsibility, and personal growth. His address inspired students to strive for both knowledge and character.




Mrs. Savitha S. Nayak, Executive Member of the Alumni Association, graced the occasion with her presence and motivated the students with her encouraging words, sharing her own journey and the role the college played in her professional development.The event began with a warm welcome by Vice Principal, Mr. Prasanna Shetty.The programme concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks by Mrs. Vanitha Shetty, Lecturer in Commerce, who appreciated the contributions of all dignitaries, faculty members, and students for making the event a grand success.

In connection with the nationwide initiative "Nasha Mukth Bharat Abhiyan", an Oath-Taking Programme was held today at 11:30 AM in front of the Principal’s Chamber. The event aimed to create awareness among students and staff about the harmful effects of drug abuse and to encourage a commitment to a drug-free lifestyle.

The programme witnessed the active participation of teaching and non-teaching staff, along with enthusiastic involvement from students across various streams. During the event, all present solemnly took the anti-drug pledge, reaffirming their resolve to stay away from intoxicating substances and to spread awareness in the society.

Brahmavara: SMS College, Brahmavara, a prestigious institution managed by the OSC Educational Society and accredited with an 'A' grade by NAAC, organized a Competitive Exam Awareness Programme on June 24th. The event aimed to enlighten students about various Central and State Government job opportunities and the preparation strategies required for competitive examinations.

The programme was organized in association with Naren Academy, Brahmavara, and Rotary Royals, Brahmavara, and served as a platform to guide students on the latest employment trends and examination patterns in the public sector.

Brahmavar, June 1: The Department of Physical Education, Mangalore University, in association with St. Mary’s Syrian College, Brahmavar, successfully organized the Mangalore University Inter-Collegiate Lawn Tennis Tournament 2024–25 for men and women on May 31, 2025, at the Ajjarkadu Indoor Stadium, Udupi.

The valedictory function of the prestigious tournament was presided over by Dr. Robert Rodrigues J., Principal of SMS College, Brahmavar.  Esteemed Guests of Honor included Mr. Chandrashekhar Hegde, Retired Physical Education Director of SMS College, Brahmavar, Mr. Rama Bhat, Member of the SMS Tennis Club, and Dr. Ramachandra Patkar, Observer from Mangalore University,Mr. Venkatesh Bhat, Physical Education Director.
